Chapter nine:
ALEX'S POV
My entire shift I didn't even see Marcus once, which was weird because he's a caddy(?) and i'd usually see him. I tried not to think of him that much, which was harder consider the thing that happened the other night. My mind was still processing it.
As I drove past the center of town on my way home from work, I decided to stop at CVS to get a quick Mountain Dew. I parked my car in a spot, one that Kendal would probably yell at me for parking too far, and walked in.
I couldn't help but be persuaded by the candy that seemed to be waiting for me in the candy aisle.
I went to the cashier with a bottle of Mountain Dew, and three packs of candy; sweettarts, gummy bears, and a giant snickers bar I found, it was literally like a foot long!
I paid, and walked outside. As I was walking, I saw Marcus walking towards the store. I ran the other way, hiding from him.
Wait, why am I hiding from him? I thought. I didn't know, but I hid. I started walking to the door when I thought I'd hid from him, but was wrong.
"Alex?" Marcus's voice called, close to me. I turned around and saw Marcus, standing taller than me but a few good inches, smiling down at me.
"What's up?" Marcus asked, his voice sounding like butter. Okay butter is like the worst analigy ever, but I can't even explain it; so deep and manly. Yum.
"Oh you know, just looking for some-" I said, then looked at what aisle I was in. Tampons.Shit. "umm some candy. Oh! haha look I already got some! Silly me!" I said, bright red with embarrassment. Not only am I acting like an idiot, but I'm acting like an idiot in the tampon aisle. Just my luck.
"Oh, um thats cool." Marcus said, then reached into his pocket for his phone. "Oh I got a new phone, so I need your number." Marcus asked, so calmly, while I'm completely freaking out.
"Oh um yeah," I said, then told him my number. He thanked me, and apologised that he had to be somewhere five minutes ago.
As I walked to my car, I opened the bag of gummy bears, and started stuffing them in my mouth.
I drove back to my house, thinking about probably going for a quick surf before it gets too dark. As I was pulling my car into the driveway, my phone vibrated. I checked it, and my heart stopped, Cedrick.
Shit. I opened the text, prepared for the worst.
'u ok?' I sighed, and texted back. Why did he have to be so caring?
'yea but we gotta talk. u free tomorrow?'
'well i have football till 5, whats wrong?'
'we just have to talk.'
'k'
Since it was still pretty early, I decided to take a walk on the beach. I know, midnight walks on the beach, so weird, but I really needed to clear my mind.
I crossed the street the the sand, and started walking towards the next town. Coming here at night was nice, it was quiet, and calming that is until Kendal slams into you from behind you.
"Ow, what the hell Ken?" I said turning around and helping her up.
"Alex?! I was looking for you!
"Kendal are you drunk?" I asked, still holding her up. She laughed out loud, flinging her hair around, squeeling.
"What? No.," She said, looking at the sunset. "Wow, that looks-that looks crazy."
"Oh my god, Ken, you're high arent you?" I said, laughing at her. Then she just started laughing uncontrollably.
"Shhhhhh." She shh'd me loud in my face, making me laugh.
"We have school tomorrow, dummy." I said, sitting her down then sitting next to her.
"Have you ever really looked at the sunset? Its soooo pretty!" She stating. Oh my god, she's gone, and still laughing.
"Alright," I said, getting up and brushing the sand off my legs. "Let's go."
"What no! I can't go home like this, Marcus will know!" She said, but still grabbed my hand helping her up.
"Like Marcus never got high." I said. walking back to my place to drive her home.
"True." She said, then started laughing and pointed to the stop sign across the street.
"What?" I asked, laughing a little.
"It says 'stop'".
"Wow, let's get you home."
