Just Like Old Times

"I remember this. It was so cool!" Jack said as he picked up the framed photo. The poor boy hadn't seen the brunette in a while, she had stopped coming around as often as she used to. Instead there was another lady, Beth, he thinks her name is. Jack doesn't like Beth, she smells like old ladies and she's doesn't like when Jack wants to spend time alone with his daddy or when he wants to visit Emmy.

"It was fun, wasn't it?" Emily smiled as she looked at the 3 figures staring back at her. It had been a hot summers day and Jack wanted to go swimming. So Aaron thought that inviting the team along to the Water park would be a good idea. The day had been enjoyable for everyone. After lunch time Jack dragged Emily to the water and Emily proceeded to grab Hotch' hand without thinking twice about it. Garcia had caught the 'adorbs' as she calls it, moment on camera.

"Emmy?" Jack asked as he rested his head on her shoulder

"Yeah bud?" She replied wrapping her arm around the nearly 6 year old

"Why don't you come play with me anymore"
The question broke her heart. With a deep breath and a few moments to think of an answer she replied
"Well, as you know I have been very busy with work lately. I haven't gotten time to come see you yet"
Not satisfied Jack continued questioning the brunette
"You don't call me either Emmy, or bring me presents" the boy stopped and pulled out of her embrace. Staring up at her, he twiddled his thumbs. A nervous habit he'd Leary from her
"Do you not love me anymore" he asked, scared of the answer, tear began forming in his eyes

"Jack" she said softly, grabbing his hand she pulled the boy to her and held his smaller body to her own "I will always love you. No matter what happens,okay?" She told Jack as her hand ran through his hair
"I'm so sorry that I haven't been around much but I'll talk to your Dad" Emily promised

Finally happy with her answer he settled with his head resting on her shoulder and the rest of his body in he lap while they watched Hotel Transylvania. By the time the movie finished Jack was dozing with his head buried into her neck. "Jack, honey, wake up" she said softly
"No"the boy mumbled which caused her to smile to herself. She had really missed these little moments they used to share.

"Come on, bedtime" when he didn't budge she lifted him up with a groan and carried him upstairs. Gently laying him in the guest bedroom, Emily made sure he was covered fully before she switched on the nightlight.
"I'll be just down the hall okay, call me if you need anything"

"K. Love you Emmy" Jack whispered half asleep

"I love you too" placing a kiss on his forehead she walked toward her bedroom before she went to sleep.

At 2 am she laid awake thinking about what Hotch and Beth had possibly done that night. She heard him talking to Dave about it. Emily felt pathetic. Like a teenager hopelessly in love. She felt like a fool thinking that there would ever be a possibility of her and Aaron ending up together. After his divorce they had gotten closer to each other than either of them thought was possible. Her thoughts were interrupted when she hear the door down the hall creek slightly, followed by tiny footsteps and a soft knock at her bedroom door

"Emmy?" His voice was quiet

"Are you okay?" She asked immediately sitting up and turning on her lamp. A small smile creeped up when she saw he was holding onto his stuffed dinosaur she had gotten him over 2 years ago

"Can I sleep by you?" Jack asked still standing at the door

"Of course" she welcomed him by pulling back the cover to her right and lifting him next to her

"Warm enough?" Emily asked once they were settled once again

"Mhmm" the boy hummed

"Goodnight Sweetheart" she kissed him on the forehead and laid down again

"Night Em'ly"

As Emily was on the verge of sleep, she felt a weight still on her chest. Opening an eye she saw Jack nuzzle his way closer to her, with his her on her upper chest and his legs and arms on either side of her, Emily brushed her hand though his hair while the other settled on his back. It was like old times she thought. Emily only hoped that every thing else would go back to the way they were.
