Hotchniss One-Shots

Pinky Promise

The morning had gone from bad to worse. Emily had finally returned from 'the dead' for about a week now, however some of the team were taking it worse than other. Hotch and Emily had talked about their relationship and had come to an agreement, however he was still yet to inform Jack about her presence. 

Emily was currently walking out of a meeting she had with Section Chief Strauss about her return to the bureau. Jessica had dropped Jack off at the BAU due to a gas leak at his school. The boy had been sitting in his fathers office for the last 40 minutes while doing his homework when a knock pulled both his and his father attention

"Come in" Hotch said and looked up when his door opened
All three of the people in his office now had a tight throat and didn't quite know what to say.
Hotch' face had turned into a ghostly white. Jack was simply frozen as he stared at the brunette in the doorway. And Emily, well she didn't really know how to process everything.

"Em'ly" Jack yelled in a broken tone which made both agents hearts clench

"Hi Jackster" she smiled when the nearly 7 year old threw himself at her

"I missed you so much" Jack said as Emily knees down to his height and wrapped her arms around his smaller body

"I missed you too" Emily mumbled into his hair, she could feel the tears form as Hotch stood up from his desk to be closer to the pair

"Where were you?" The boy questioned as tears ran down his cheeks
"I needed you" Emily felt sick, she left Jack behind after she made him a promised that she wouldn't never leave him

"I'm so sorry" Emily said pulling away slightly
"But I did it to keep you safe, and I'd do it again if I had to"

"You lied to me!" Jack turned his head to yell at his father
"You told me Emmy was dead"
"I hate you both!"
Jack pushed himself away from Emily and ran down the stairs as fast as he could and made a run for the elevator

Quickly shaking away the tears that had started falling she was about to go after him when she felt Hotch hold her back by the arm
"Em, I'm so sorry I didn't tell him... I just... I couldn't break his heart like that" he struggled

Smiling sadly she brought her best friend and boyfriend into a hug, although it was unprofessional she quite frankly didn't care. They had been in a relationship for the last 2 and half years and were deeply in love with each other.

"It's okay. I'll fix this, I promise" she said and walked away hooping to find the young boy

"I know, you always do" he whispered once she left his office

Jack was frantically pacing in the parking lot of the BAU, he was honestly surprised that he'd gotten that far without one of the security guards stopping him.

It was all to much for the young boy, at only the near age of 7 he had been through more traumatic experiences than most people in their life time. It had taken him a while to except that Emily was gone. She had always been his favourite in the team and she made him and his Dad happy. Before he eventually excepted her death, he would break down and cry whenever he saw a photo of her, when he smelt or saw something that reminded him of her and he even broke down crying once in the shopping mall after the brunette cashier complemented his jacket. It was his favourite one. One that Emily had gotten him. And now she was back all of a sudden.

"Jack?" He quickly wiped his tears and looked up to see Emily standing with her car keys in hand and ready to go

"Let's go get some ice cream" she said taking the boys hand

The ride was quiet and although she tried making small talk all she would get back in return was a 'yeah' or 'I don't know'
They both ordered their ice cream and was now sitting on the beach watching the waves crash down and the sun set. It had taken them ore than 2 hours to arrive there but she didn't care, she wanted to sort it out and Emily knew that they had some of their best memories at the beach

"I'm sorry, I shouldn't of yelled at you or Daddy" Jack said ashamed

"I can't begin to understand what it feels like, but you're right you're dad didn't deserve that"
Emily replied still looking at sea

"I really missed you" he told her, shuffling closer to her and resting his head on her shoulder

"I missed you too, I promise I won't leave you again. Ever" She promised him as she wrapped her left arm around his shoulder

"Pinky promise?" Jack questioned looking at her

"Pinky promise" Emily smiled and stuck out her pinky

Leaning his head on her shoulder again he couldn't help but smile when she ruffled his hair before jumping up and yelling "tag you're it!"

Later that night after Jack had apologised to his father the family went out for dinner and while the three were taking a stroll under the moonlight, Aaron kneeled down and asked Emily to marry him. She of course said yes and the two adults looked for any excuse to go home and 'celebrate'. That was until Jack asked an interesting question

"Can I get a baby sister?"

Both brunettes groaned
