,,Remember: go big or go home." Carlos took a deep breath and faced the North High students. They were all in North High's dance studio. Gina couldn't believe her eyes. This is everything she has ever dreamed of and more.
,,Wildcats, are you ready?" a random North High student said. Carlos turned his head to see the East High crew. They all gave him a reassuring nod.
,,We are." he stood up straight in front of their competition.
,,Let us begin!" the guy from the post said. ,,Hit it, Antoine!" Lily shouted at him.
Antoine started playing music and the North High students started dancing confidently. They were provoking the eastern students.
,,Scared?" Lily smirked while dancing around Carlos. ,,Not a chance." he smirked back at her.
It was the East High's crew time to shine. They all started dancing in sync, Gina soon took the lead. North High didn't look so confident anymore.
,,You go, G!" Ricky yelled from behind. Gina couldn't help but smile a little. Ricky's words motivated her even more and she gave it her all. Nini on the other hand didn't like his reaction whatsoever.
,,Woah!" they stopped dancing. ,,How was that?" Ashlyn crossed her arms in triumph. North High got a bit quiet. ,,Cat got your tongue?" Kourtney laughed and did a handshake with Carlos.
,,What team?" Ricky stuck his hand out. Everyone else did the same. ,,Wildcats!" they all yelled together as their hands departed.
,,Whatever. Here are your feather dusters. Now leave before we make you." Lily handed them their things.
,,Thanks." Gina took them, winking at Lily. Everyone turned around and started walking away, East High cheering, North High mumbling under their breaths. Everyone except for Ricky and Lily. Nobody noticed him going up to her.
,,One more thing before I leave." he stood inches away from her, looking her directly in the eyes.
,,And what would that be?" she held her head high.
,,Don't steal my girlfriend's stuff ever again." he said with narrowed eyes, then left.
Little did he know they were not the only ones in that room. One person has seen it and heard their interaction.
,,I can't believe we pulled that off." EJ said cheerfully as they all settled down in Salt Lake Slices. ,,Technically we didn't." Ashlyn replied.
,,What do you mean?" EJ asked.
,,Did we get exposed? Yes. Were we expecting a dance battle? No." Ashlyn started explaining.
,,Have we won in the end? Yeah!" EJ yelled.
,,Okay, keep it down, you're not the only ones here." Big Red swept in the view, bringing them all their menus.
,,Sorry, Big Red. What do y'all want?" Ricky asked the crew.
,,Pepperoni for me and Seb." Carlos raised his hand while putting his arm around Seb, who leaned in closer to him. Ricky did the same with Nini, who was a bit reluctant but leaned in too.
,,I'll take a Hawaiian, please?" Gina smiled at Big Red. Ricky looked at her with a startled smile on his face. Big Red looked from Gina to Ricky and back, then chuckled and wrote down her order. Nini also noticed. She wiggled out of Ricky's grasp and ordered another Pepperoni.
,,Mushrooms for Ashlyn," Big Red gave Ashlyn a big smile, ,,and a Hawaiian for Ricky?" he asked. Ricky opened his mouth to say yes, then looked at Nini who already seemed mad and changed his mind to: ,,Ah, I think I'll go with Pepperoni as well."
This seemed to calm Nini down a little.
Big Red left to prepare their order and the crew began talking about the day's events.
After they had their lunch, people started leaving. Ricky and Nini stayed behind to talk. Gina looked back at them for a second before she left the restaurant.
,,Now that we're all alone..." Ricky got closer to Nini.
,,I did mean what I wrote in that song, Ricky." she blurted out.
Ricky moved back a little.
,,What?"
,,I do feel like our relationship is holding me back."
Ricky was speechless.
,,I want to explore. I want to try out new things. I want to change!"
The way she said change sent shivers down Ricky's spine.
,,What's so bad about what we have?" he asked.
,,We're holding on to the past. That is not healthy. We should learn, grow, make new memories. Not hold onto what could have been yet isn't."
,,Well for some of us, those could have beens mean everything." he whispered, leaning back on his seat.
Nini's face was sympathetic, but she couldn't stop now.
,,I love you, Ricky. I do. But I don't think we're meant for each other."
Ricky was in a complete shock.
,,You're breaking up with me?" he said with a shaky voice.
,,I am. I am sorry, but it's better for both of us."
,,No, it's not. We can fix it."
,,There's nothing to be fixed, Ricky. We changed, whether or not you'd like to admit it. I am different than who I used to be-"
,,Yeah, obviously..."
,,-but you are different, too."
,,How come?"
,,I saw the way you look at Gina. How you protected her. I'm not stupid, Richard, I know you have feelings for her." Nini said. She could feel the words sting a little deep inside, but she knew this was the right choice to make.
,,I don't. I'm with you. I love you, I can't love anyone else." Ricky looked down, not believing what he's hearing.
,,That's where you're wrong. You do love me, but as a friend. You were an amazing boyfriend, but it isn't fair for either of us to keep this going. I need to go my own way and you need to find yourself before you get involved with someone again." Nini stood up.
,,I'm here for you, Ricky. I know it will seem like I'm not, but I am. I'll leave you to collect your thoughts now, but if you'll ever need to ask for advice, talk or just vent, I'm one phone call away, okay?" she pat his shoulder.
Ricky stood up as well.
,,I love you, Nini. I understand your decision. Thank you for being the best friend in the world." he hugged her.
Best friend, huh. Sounds weird, but I'll get used to it, Nini thought to herself and hugged Ricky back.
