,,This pizza is so good, Red! Thanks for inviting us!" Ashlyn hugged her boyfriend when he brought them their drinks.
,,My pleasure. I very much enjoy turning one pizza into five pizzas on the house. Definitely won't get me in trouble." he said sarcastically and went back to the kitchen.
,,Aw, he's adorable." Ashlyn pined after him. Nobody shared her exact thoughts, but they were still grateful for the five pizzas they will get for free.
,,Alright, here they come." Big Red returned with three pizzas in his hand, Kourtney carrying the other two.
,,Two pepperonis, one with olives, here's your bacon mix EJ, and Hawaiian for-" he looked around.
,,Me! I love Hawaiian." Gina raised her hand and did a little wave.
,,Seriously? That's dope. I thought Ricky was the only psychopath in here." he put the pizza on the table and left. Ricky made his way through Carlos and Seb to sit in front of Gina, who was eyeing the pizza with a hungry gaze.
,,So, you like Hawaiian as well?" Ricky asked while she grabbed a slice.
,,Yes, it's delicious. Who says pineapple doesn't belong on pizza?" she said, taking a big bite. Ricky chuckled. He has never seen anyone as enthusiastic as Gina when it comes to a Hawaiian pizza.
,,I'm pretty sure everyone except the two of us does." he stole a piece from himself. He has to be quick if he wants to taste another piece, since Gina was already starting on her third one. It's funny how the first date stereotype is pretending you don't eat much and usually going for a salad to show off your healthy lifestyle. This wasn't a date but he swore he could look at Gina devouring pizzas all day long. Screw stereotypes, he wants to see his girl- friend-, his friend who happens to be a girl, happy. If that means ordering three large pizzas, so be it.
,,Why are you looking at me like that?" Gina stopped eating, tilting her head to the side.
,,Huh?" Ricky snapped out of his thoughts.
,,Ricky Bowen, are you checking me out? You didn't choose a very good timing for that." she chuckled.
,,Actually, you look adorable when you're eating." Ricky casually said and took another bite of his slice. He realized it went silent, so he looked up and saw everyone staring at him, frozen in motion.
,,Wha?" he mumbled with his mouth still full. Everyone unfroze and continued doing what they were doing, Carlos whispered "And he says he's not leading her on." to Seb and EJ shot him a nasty stare. Ricky slouched on the chair after hearing Carlos. The pizza suddenly didn't taste as good.
,,Do you want the last slice?" Gina asked, turning the pizza box towards him.
,,No, thanks. You can have it." he forced a smile. He didn't want her to sense something is up with him, especially after the awkward moment that has just happened.
,,I know I should be polite and say "No, you take it" but I can't when it comes to Hawaiian." she shrugged and took the last piece. Ricky didn't have to force a smile this time, her happiness genuinely made him feel better.
Everyone started slowly leaving, Ricky not moving an inch. He was still slouching in his spot, unwilling to make any movements.
When it was just him and Gina, she stood up, walked to the other side of the table and sat next to him.
,,Okay, what's up?"
,,Nothing. It's alright, you can go."
,,And when has that ever worked on me?" she put her arm on the table, showing Ricky she is not going anywhere anytime soon. Ricky sighed.
,,Never."
,,That's right. So what's going on?"
,,It's just something Carlos said. I feel really guilty about what happened between us. I wish things would have been different."
,,Me, too." Gina had to lean back on her seat.
They sat next to each other in silence, staring at the empty seats in front of them.
,,I don't want to break up your philosophical party, but we're closing soon." Big Red started cleaning up their table.
,,Sorry, we're going." Ricky stood up and Gina did the same. They said goodbye to Red and walked out of the restaurant.
,,I'll walk you home." Ricky said.
,,You don't have to." Gina said quickly, but Ricky could see right through her.
,,I might not have to, but I want to. Let's go." he said, wrapping his arm around hers.
She could hear her heartbeat growing stronger and faster and Ricky could too. Both of them were enjoying each other's warmth.
,,Do you regret staying?" he asked.
,,Not anymore. But I wanted to leave at one point."
,,That was because of me, wasn't it?"
,,No. Okay, maybe it was. But it's okay, I'm over it now."
,,I feel like an idiot." Ricky tilted his head down.
,,There's no reason to feel that way. You apologized and I know you truly regret it. It's fine."
,,How about I take you on a little road trip tomorrow to make up for it?"
,,Are you serious?" Gina let go of his hand and stopped. She seemed beyond excited.
,,Of course! I can plan a route and we can ride all day long, blasting our favorite songs on the radio. It's going to be fun!"
,,Yes! Oh, I need that. I really do need that." Gina grabbed his arm again and they continued walking. Neither of them knew when they got this close, but both of them didn't mind it at all. Maybe this wasn't anything new. Maybe they were just picking up where they left off.
,,And we're here." they walked up to Ash's door as they have the night of the sleepovers.
,,Pity I had no jacket to give you today, now you can't throw it back at me."
,,Hey, I didn't throw it at you! I just returned it." they both laughed.
,,Alright, I'm a little disappointed I didn't have the opportunity for romantic gestures." he chuckled, then noticed Gina is staring at him.
,,Gosh, sorry, that was super inappropriate." he started apologizing.
,,You're good. I'm just not used to you talking like that." she smiled.
,,I guess it's still a habit after..." he coughed, ,,nevermind."
Gina knew exactly what he meant and her expression fell down a little bit.
,,Thank you for walking me home."
,,Thank you for allowing me to do that. And thanks for always being there for me, no matter what happens between us." he gave her a quick hug.
,,Sleep well." he smiled.
,,Good night, Ricky." she smiled back.
