,,You know, this day was going quite well up until that moment." Gina said as she and Ashlyn were walking back to their house.
,,I gotta admit that was pretty awkward. Or, not awkward, more like some very bad timing. I mean, it's the middle of the night and you were stepping outside EJ's house. Alone."
,,Thanks for stating the obvious."
,,Oh, wait- I didn't mean to upset you."
,,It's all good. I just wish he would have walked past ten second earlier. Or that I waited for you to get out."
,,The universe has its own ways of making things happen, you wouldn't have avoided him anyway."
Gina looked at Ashlyn with curiosity. ,,That was kinda deep."
,,I try. I wonder what Ricky was doing outside this late though?"
,,Maybe he went to the skate park. He usually spends his evenings there."
,,Okay, I'm not even going to ask why you know so much about his daily routine. He didn't have a skateboard, that couldn't have been it."
,,You're right. Maybe he left it there?"
,,I think there's a higher possibility of him not returning back from the skate park but from somewhere else." Ashlyn noted.
Gina knew that already. She didn't want to think about all the places he could have been returning from. Like Nin-
,,He was probably at Big Red's. They got a bit too much into the game and didn't even realize what time it is." Ashlyn interrupted her thoughts.
,,I guess so." Gina still wasn't very confident about that answer, but she hoped that was it.
Meanwhile, Ricky was pacing in his room, back and forth and back again. Was Gina's seriously at EJ's house?
,,I thought there was nothing going on between them?!" he yelled.
,,Between who?" his dad yelled back from the kitchen.
,,No-one, sorry!"
Ugh, everything always has to be so complicated. Maybe he should just call her and talk things through. Isn't that what works best? Yeah, his therapist definitely told him that communication is important. What if she didn't want to talk to him? What if she was with EJ now?
What if she was happy without him in her life?
Ricky tried shaking that thought out of his head. It didn't budge. He was a terrible friend in the past, she probably hates him now. Yep. That's why she was with EJ. EJ was the new Ricky. Or at least for her. Someone with whom she could share all of her deepest secrets, someone who really understood her. Impossible. They got each other on a level nobody else could.
Who was he kidding, he was absolutely replaceable. Gina was amazing, anyone would be lucky enough to be her friend, or even her boyfriend.
The thought of EJ being Gina's boyfriend sent shivers down his spine. Nope. Time to stop thinking about this.
Ricky grabbed his guitar, sat down on his bed and started strumming. Words started forming in his head. He took a notebook, wrote them down and started working on a whole new song.
Gina was rolling in her bed. She shouldn't care about what Ricky thought, that's his problem. She was just helping a friend out, having fun. Ricky can think what he wants, who cares. It's not like he cared about her after opening night, when she- after she spoke to him. Yes, sure, maybe he has feelings for her now (or still?), but she doesn't want to be his rebound. Definitely not just because he thinks her and EJ are a thing. Well, he probably does. Whatever.
She rolled on the other side of the bed for the last time and closed her eyes. She is not going to lose sleep over a boy.
,,Three in the morning." Ricky sighed as he put his phone back on his bedside table. This is a nightmare. He isn't even sleeping. He shouldn't care this much about seeing Gina in front of someone's house. Yet, he wrote a whole song about his emotions just a few hours back.
He picked up his phone again. Alright, screw this.
R: Saw a girl, she shone like the sun (bear with me on this please)
She was probably sleeping right now, she won't reply. Maybe she will once she gets up?
*ding*
G: Why aren't you sleeping???
,,Guess she's not sleeping after all." Ricky smirked to himself.
R: Now I'm thinking about her, losing sleep
G: More like I'm losing sleep.
R: She's so beautiful, I hope she knows
Gina left Ricky on read, but he didn't give up hope.
R: That she's my sun, she's my star
R: I keep watching her from afar
R: If only she knew how much she meant to me
Gina wasn't replying but she was still reading all of Ricky's texts, which was more than enough for him. This must be a good sign.
R: :)
Gina started typing, Ricky felt his heart skip a beat.
G: Is that a new song?
R: It is. What do you think?
Gina left him on read again. Ricky sighed. Maybe it was a bit too straightforward. Then his phone beeped.
Gina: I like it ;)
A big smile showed up on Ricky's face. This was the best possible scenario and it happened.
R: Wait until you actually hear it, it's going to be even better 😌
G: Can't wait!
Ricky almost couldn't handle his excitement, but he knew he had to, otherwise he'd wake up his dad. He wished Gina good night, put his phone down and started thinking about how he could make his song even better.
Gina threw her phone next to her on the bed and covered her face with her hands. She wanted to scream, but she knew she had to stay quiet, so she only squeaked. This woke Ashlyn up, who put her head up in confusion, eyes barely open.
,,Why are you still up?" she whispered with a weary voice.
,,I'll tell you in the morning. Go back to sleep."
She didn't have to tell her twice since Ashlyn immediately lay her head back down and fell asleep.
Gina layed back on the bed and smiled to herself. What a day.
