Hope I could have loved her

,,You're sweet." Gina smiled at him. He smiled back, inviting her in.

,,When did you even manage to pull all of this off?"

,,Today. I got her as soon as I could after school."

Gina studied his face. This is definitely one of the sweetest things, if not the sweetest, anyone has ever done for her.

,,Here, I have some snacks prepared if you're hungry." he offered her some of her favorite things.

,,Aw, you got Skittles!" she grabbed a few.

,,Of course, they're your favorite." he grabbed some as well. ,,Would you like to watch something? I have everything set up, all you gotta do is say the word."

,,Ooh, I'd love to! How about The Kissing Booth?"

,,I never watched that one. I'll put it on right away!" Ricky logged in into his Netflix account and played the movie.

They watched the whole thing without speaking too much, only a few comments here and there. Ricky started crying during the sad scene and Gina couldn't help but mess with him a little, which made him laugh again.

,,I didn't expect to see you cry." she chuckled.

,,What can I say, it was really sad. Hit me right in the feels, right here." Ricky pointed to his heart and laughed.

,,Oh, I almost forgot." he said, sticking his hand under a pillow and pulling out a wrapped soft package.

,,What's that?" Gina asked out of curiosity.

,,It's for you. Here, open it up." he handed her the package.

She looked at him, then took it from his hands and unwrapped it. Inside was an adorable wooden necklace in the shape of a teddy bear.

,,It's lovely." she smiled, putting it around her neck.

,,I know it's not very good but I tried my best." Ricky chuckled nervously.

,,You made this?" Gina asked and he nodded. ,,Wow, this is very well made! I thought it was from a store, that's how good it is." she examined the necklace again. It truly was impressive.

,,Yep. Not as good as the hat you made me, though."

,,You still have that?"

,,Uh, obviously? It's my favorite hat. I'd be wearing it right now if it wasn't too warm."

Gina smiled again. She sort of didn't expect this, she thought he has already forgotten about it. Even she barely remembers making it.

,,I'm not taking this off anytime soon. That's the pro of accessories, you can wear them at any point throughout the year."

,,Well, I think you look great. Even though that's probably not because of the necklace."

Gina gave him a questioning look.

,,You're beautiful." he said, looking into her eyes. Gina wanted to say something back but got lost in his eyes. They both started leaning in...

,,Ricky, is that you?" someone outside said. They jumped away from each other.

,,Uh- yes?" Ricky had no idea what was happening. Suddenly the person unzipped the tent's opening and stuck their head inside. It was Nini.

,,Oh." she said once she noticed Gina. ,,Sorry-" she quickly got out of the tent, zipped it back up and started walking away embarrassed.

,,Gosh, why does this always happen." Ricky sighed. Then he noticed how uncomfortable Gina got.

,,Maybe this was a bad idea." she suddenly said, shocking him.

,,Wait, what?"

,,I gotta go." she got out of the tent.

,,Did I do something wrong?" Ricky ran after her.

,,Not exactly." Gina sped up.

,,Talk to me, please." he pleaded. Gina stopped.

,,Not right now, Ricky. Thank you for a beautiful evening." she pulled off a small smile and walked away.

Ricky ran his hands through his hair. Was it because of Nini? Did she seriously need to show up when he was having a moment with Gina? Or was it because he almost kissed her? Was that too soon? Once again, he had messed up and felt miserable.

He went back to the tent and started cleaning up.

,,Ashlyn? Are you home?" Gina shouted once she got back home. She took off her shoes and kicked them to the side.

,,Jeez, calm down, tiger." someone behind her said. She turned around to see EJ standing in the kitchen.

,,You again?"

,,Wow, okay. Don't get too excited."

,,Ugh, sorry." she walked up to him and gave him a hug. ,,I'm glad you're here."

,,Next time maybe skip the first part?" he laughed. ,,Ashlyn's not here by the way, she went to Big Red's place about 20 minutes ago."

,,Wait, if Ashlyn's not here, then what are you doing here?"

,,I thought we've already established that it's not very nice to show your disappointment."

,,EJ."

,,Fine, fine. I was hanging out with her before she left and then I decided to cook myself something. Don't really want to be home at the moment."

,,Is everything alright?" Gina got worried.

,,Yeah, it's fine. I just want to be away from my parents for a bit."

,,I guess I get that."

,,Right, um. So as I started cooking, I realized that you might be hungry and made you dinner as well. It's in the microwave." he nodded towards the microwave.

,,Thanks, EJ. I could use some food right now." she went to get her serving and sat down at the kitchen table.

,,So, uh. Ash told me you were out on a date with loverboy?" EJ sat down opposite to her.

,,I suppose so."

,,What's wrong, I thought you liked him?"

,,It's not that." Gina started playing with her fork.

,,You still don't trust him?"

Gina looked up.

,,I don't think it's about trust. It's about Nini being literally everywhere he is. Whenever we're together, she pops up."

EJ took a deep breath. ,,I know what you mean. But you have to see it from their point of view. Not only have they broken up recently, they have always been best friends. I think they will always be leaning on each other for support when needed. At the same time though, I think he would focus on you if you got together."

Gina was conflicted. She knew how close Ricky was with Nini, but would she be able to look past it? Or would she get jealous every time they talked to each other?

,,I guess I got used to Ricky without Nini since she was pushing him away at the time we became friends."

,,Probably. Look, if I were you, I'd give him a chance to prove himself. He's trying, it's the least you could do. Especially since you both have feelings for each other."

,,You're right. Thank you, I needed this."

,,Anytime." EJ smiled. ,,Hey, what's that on your neck?"

,,Ricky made this. Impressive, right?" Gina took off the necklace and handed it to EJ, who started examining it. ,,Never knew the guy had it in him."
