There's so much left unspoken

Ricky finally finished cleaning up. He was on his way home when a house grabbed his attention. It was the only house in the street that still had lights on. As he got closer, he realized it was Ashlyn's house. Meaning it was also where Gina lived. Should he go up there and apologize?

He crossed the street. Maybe he should just apologize. Or maybe all she wants is some space right now. He was about to turn away when he saw someone sitting in the kitchen. His curiosity got the better of him and he had to walk closer. It was Gina... sitting at the table with EJ.

His brain started spiraling. Why was she this close with EJ? Why were they spending time together this late?

It's Ashlyn's house, he calmed himself down. He's allowed to be there.

What about the time he saw her leaving EJ's house? That was his house and it was also late. Is this their thing or something?

Ricky started pacing back and forth on the pavement. He took another glance at the two, noticing the necklace he gave her in EJ's hands. He could feel his blood starting to boil, but EJ handed it back to Gina, who put it around her neck again, which made Ricky feel better.

He's not going to screw this up. He will trust Gina just as much as she trusts him. He can ask her about this tomorrow. "Communication is key." his therapist's words echoed inside his head.

,,Loverboy is definitely falling for you." EJ smirked. Gina stayed quiet, still playing with the food on her plate.

,,Scratch that. He probably already is in love with you." he said, making Gina look up at him with her eyes widened.

,,I would have to be head over heels in love to carve out something like that." he added, then smiled.

,,I'm not going to argue on the first part, but I'm pretty sure you can carve things without being madly in love." Gina said.

,,Maybe you can. I wouldn't." EJ chuckled, got up and went to wash the dishes. Gina looked at her necklace again. Whether or not EJ was telling the truth, she ran away from Ricky without explaining a thing. He must be so confused right now. She should call him later.

,,Heyo, cousin!" Ashlyn entered the house. Both Gina and EJ turned their heads.

,,G! You're home earlier than I expected."

,,Yeah, you aren't the only one who didn't expect this."

Ashlyn raised an eyebrow. EJ gave Gina an encouraging look, slightly mocking her in the process.

,,Might have been my fault." Gina started, Ashlyn keeping her eyebrow up.

,,Ricky prepared a really nice tent for us, we even almost kissed and then Nini showed up and I couldn't handle seeing her for some reason, so I got up and left him there." Gina ranted. EJ almost chocked on his water and Ashlyn was staring at her with her mouth slightly open.

,,You never said you almost kissed?!" EJ said in a higher tone, clearly quite surprised by the fact.

,,It's kind of irrelevant now, isn't it?" Gina fell back in her chair.

,,You did ruin the moment." Ash finally closed her mouth.

,,Gee, thanks for having my back."

,,Can't lie to my bestie. You can still make up for it, though."

,,How?" Gina leaned back on the table.

,,Call him. Talk things out. Explain why you left. It's going to be uncomfortable, but it's going to help you in the long run." Ash explained, then started peeling an orange as if nothing was going on.

,,Yeah, you're right. I'll go call him right now." Gina stood up and went to her room.

Nini's phone screen light up as she was devouring a cold pizza from the fridge. So much for not embarrassing herself. She picked up the phone to see Ricky's face all over the screen. She quickly threw the pizza on the table, wiped her mouth and picked up.

,,Ricky, hey!" she faked a smile.

,,Hey Neens. You good?"

,,Why wouldn't I be?"

,,Because you only eat left-over pizza when you're sad." Ricky gave her a concerning look.

,,How did y-"

,,Is it because of earlier?"

Silence followed.

,,I didn't know you were with Gina, I swear. I just wanted to clear my head so I went to the nicest place in the park I know, saw the tent and thought you were in there. Alone."

,,That's fine, I get it. But how are you feeling?"

Nini wasn't expecting that question. She thought Ricky would be mad at her for interrupting their little date. Wait, why is he alone? Did she ruin their night?

,,I'm good, just a bit embarrassed." she admitted.

,,Don't be, it's all good." Ricky chuckled. Nini sighed in relief. She expected this to go way worse.

,,So what happened after our awkward encounter?" she bit into her pizza once more.

,,Not sure. Gina got up and left almost immediately, wouldn't tell me why." Ricky looked away from his phone as if he was searching for an answer in his bedroom. Nini felt a knot form in her stomach. Was this her fault?

,,She probably didn't enjoy seeing me. You were on a date and I popped out of nowhere-"

,,Nonsense, you're friends." Ricky said, not denying the fact they were on a date, making the knot in her stomach grow bigger.

,,Well, Ricky. I guess you could say we are, but that doesn't change the fact that the two of us dated, broke up and still stayed friends. She probably sees me as a threat."

,,Gina isn't like that."

,,Okay, let me rephrase that. Maybe not exactly as a threat, but as someone who could potentially ruin your relationship?"

,,She knows you wouldn't do that." Ricky chuckled.

,,I think that what Gina sees right now is a guy who got out of a relationship with a girl who he loved. We still hang out together, she saw us talking multiple times. Honestly, she's probably wondering if you still have feelings for me."

,,No way!" Ricky snorted, Nini backed up a little. ,,No offence."

,,Yeah, uh, none taken." she laughed, hiding the sadness that started to take over.

,,So what should I do?" he asked.

,,Show her that you care. Show her that what you two have going on is serious and you wouldn't give it up because of some random chick you once dated."

,,Hey, that's not very nice. You're not a random chick, you're my best friend and I love you - as a friend." Ricky smiled at Nini.

,,Aw." she smiled back.

,,Okay, now go win her heart back!"
