Scaramouche's perspective
"So, care to explain to me why you had just about a billion people surrounding you?" I asked Mona
Mona had dragged me over to the Good Hunter to "continue their earlier conversation."
Why did I have to say this conversation is not over? The whole situation could have been avoided.
"I do star readings for people to make money these days. Its only about 15,000 mora a day but I make it work." Mona told me.
"Only 15,000? Do you have enough to eat? Where are you sleeping at night?"
"Look at you! Concerned for someone's well being!" Mona smirked.
"Oh shut up star girl."
"Did you just call me star girl?"
"Maybe."
"Lets change the subject. I'm really sorry about earlier." I said. "Sorry for shoving me against the wall?" She questioned. "Oh no I'm not sorry about that." I laughed.
I changed to a more serious tone.
"I'm sorry for accidentally touching your... uh... chest area. I'm lots of things but someone who doesn't apologize for accidentally assulting someone isn't one of them." I told her.
"Oh..." Mona said.
Hold on...was she... blushing?
"I didn't expect you too apologize for that... thank you." She continued.
She sounded nervous.
"Are you okay? You sound a bit nervous." I asked. "I'm fine! Sorry." She said "It's okay." I replied.
"One sweet madame for two!" The waitress said as she brought our meal out. "Thank you Sara." Mona said to her.
"Only one sweet madame?" I asked Mona once Sara walked away. "It's all I can really afford at the moment... I usually skip lunch." Mona said embarrassed. "Really? I can pay if you like. You should save money!" I blurted. "No no, I asked you for lunch, I should pay. An astrologist never forgets her manners." Mona insisted. "And a good man doesn't forget his. You need to save money, I can pay, please don't worry about it." I protested. "But-" "No buts. I insist. Just because I'm a harbinger doesn't mean I don't have a heart." I said.
"You know what? Let's start over. I'm Scaramouche, nice to meet you." I smiled.
"I'm Mona, nice to meet you too." Mona replied with a empathetic smile.
"Ooo now since we're friends can I give you a nickname? Scaramouche is a mouthful. What about Scara?" She joyfully asked.
My heart did just about every gymnastics skill in the book. She wants to give me a nickname? Oh. My. Electro.
"S-sure!" I blurted. I could feel my face heating up.
"Yay!" She squeaked.
Something about that smile. It was just... just...-
"Sir?" Garret asked.
I turned around and look at him, probably best I took my eyes of Mona for a bit to let my face cool down.
"Yes?" I asked. "We need to finish up. We still have alot of ground to cover for patrol and we need to be back at the hotel in half an hour for a meeting." Garret said. "Really? Surely it hasn't been that long!" I protested. *sigh* "I guess I should finish up.." I said.
I turned back to Mona.
"I'm really sorry Mona, do you think we could have lunch tomorrow too?" I nervously asked. Her face lit up. "Oh uh.. Sure! That sounds good! Same time?" She replied. "Mhm!" I said. I pulled out some mora for the check and left it on the table. "See you tomorrow!" I said cheerfully before getting up and walking away with Garret.
Once we got a few ways away, Garret turned to me with a smirk. "You've never seemed disappointed when having to leave someone's company before. And you've also never invited someone to hang out with you willingly." He said. "Are you maybe in l-" I Smacked my hand on his mouth covering the words from spilling out. "No! Absouloutly not! I don't know where you got such a wild idea!"
I started speeding up my pace out of pure rage. There was no way. Not a chance. I could never be... in love...
