Cato x Reader

District 2's reaping day won't end without it turning into frenzy. Becoming a tribute and representing the district is such an honor that people are vying to take that spot. Other districts would think that district 2 kids have lost their minds, why would you volunteer for something that will lead to your death? Oh, they won't understand.

You smiled triumphantly after securing the spot, you're now a career tribute. You've seen how satisfied the looks are. You were so immersed with the crowd cheering that you haven't noticed your district partner staring. You didn’t even bother to look at him when both of you shake hands.

You have said your final goodbyes to your family. Not even a tear was shed as you confidently said you’ll make it back home as a Victor. You have been waiting for this moment to happen and it’s within your reach now. You are bound to the Capitol. You are all set for the games, from your fighting and survival skills to devising your own plan.

“Can I help you?” you suddenly asked the guy sitting across from you.

“Sorry, I must be interrupting your deep thoughts. The deafening silence just bothers me.” he said, his eyes not leaving yours.

You raised a brow at him. “Why don’t you leave and go elsewhere then? This isn’t the only place in the train after all.”

“Oooh so feisty, I like that.” he said, crossing his arms. You can sense that he’s still staring at you. You’re clearly not in the mood for whatever shenanigans he have.

“What do you want, Cato?” you snapped at him. His cocky grin is showing, now that he has your attention.

“Why don’t we use this time to machinate about our game plan. You’re my partner, I just can’t do this on my own.”

You scoffed at him. “The great Cato Hadley needs my help? Well, that’s new.” You swore that you won’t get intimidated, you’ll make sure he never underrates you. You’ll make sure he’ll notice you.

“I’ve been keeping an eye on you during training. I know this is going to be a tough competition. I don’t want to hurt you.” he frowned, you know he’s mocking you.

“No need to go easy on me, Cato. I know how to fight. I’ll watch my back if I were you.” you said menacingly, smirk forming in your lips.

“I had a nice chat with you.” he said as he stood up to leave the room, but before he could leave he went to your direction.

“I’m sorry darling, only one of us is going to get out alive in the arena.” he whispered at you. You can feel his breath on your neck. He grinned upon seeing you flustered. He know what he’s doing.

The heartbreaker will literally be the death of you.

You can’t escape now.
