He's gone. Dead. Deceased. Vance took his life after the parade. He jumped off the top of the training building yesterday after the parade. While Ronnie has been worried about publicity and what this will mean for district 10, I've been locked in my room staring at the wall. It is a very interesting wall. It's light yellow, and there are brown floor boards. There is a stain near the bottom of the wall.

Eventually Croule comes in to tell me the news, "There won't be anyone taking his place in the games, so you'll be the only tribute from district 10. They've installed force fields on the roof so if you try to jump you'll get flung back. Not without injury, though. You've skipped the first day of training, and god knows you'll need as much for that as possible. I recommend you get to sleep, and wake up ready to work tomorrow."

"Mhm," is all I can mange to mumble in response. I never really got to talk to Vance. He was 4 years younger than me, so I never really saw him even at school. Vance worked cattle, so I didn't see him at work. All I know about him is he lived with his mother, who is very ill. I wonder how she is doing now that he's gone. Has she heard the news yet? Surely. Most of Panem has. It's already been broadcasted.

I slowly stand up. My legs are tired since I haven't walked since I heard the news. I guess I always knew Vance would probably die, I just never thought I'd be alive to see it. He went early. I pity not getting to know him better. I start moving my legs, starting to jog in place. I then drop and do some push-ups. I continue this until it's morning. I'm sore and aching everywhere, but it's worth it. I know what I'm going to have to do. I'm going to have to win the Hunger Games. For Vance
