"At least..." He had stopped to place his hands on his knees, panting. "Let me help you get it banaged. It's the least I can do. Truly, I feel terrible."
"You know, for a god, you sure have poor lung capacity."
"I fear my body has taken quite ill to a life without it's magic."
"So what? You're like, just a regular dude now?"
"Now hang on just a minute. I am not... A regular dude, thank you very much. Just, a little less powerful."
"Mmmm, sure."
A little annoyed, he grabbed the bandaging from her and hastily wrapped her thrashed up arm.
"Go ahead then, prove it."
"Prove what?" Loki scoffed.
"Do something... godly." Clara's sharp smile faded when Loki charged at her, grabbing her by the waist with one hand and her hand with the other. He spun her out and back in, bringing her close, so close that all she had to do was move millimeters to plaster herself against his plush lips. She blinked and pulled away.
'What the fuck Clara.'
Loki gave a flashy smile. "See, godly seduction... still got it."
"Your breath smells like ass." She lied. Actually it was infuriating but his breath smelt sweet like honey and just a bite of lemon which was a very yummy combination next to his natural amber scent. She was sure her breath was not so nice.
There must have been something in that water that caused hallucinations because she was positive that she was NOT having these urges for Loki of her own free will.
Clara grabbed her bow and quiver of arrows and started out into the forest. "I'll be back." she told him in a classic Terminator impression that he did not get, at all. "Oh and Casanova?" She looked back at his confused face, "Think those godly charms of yours could get us a fire going? I will need to cook whatever I catch as soon as I get back."
***********************************
They ate dinner together next to the fire later that night, falling into a less charged rhythm again, talking about their favorite things from their lives before. He asked her about the movie and book references she kept using and it made her realize how insane her life actually was.
The fact that she was currently trying to explain the plot of Terminator to a god in the middle of an enchanted forest was something she definitely shouldn't be taking for granted.
"If I'm being honest,'' began Clara, " I don't actually have a lot of memories from my life before. I know I fucking loved music, but I can't remmber what kind. I know I was happy, mostly, I remember laughing a lot. I remember feeling loved and secure. I remember the taste of pasta, oh and fresh baked bread would make me fall to my knees in ecstasy. Crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside. MMMMM Shit!" She laughed but it didn't hit her eyes. "I try to remember, and it comes in bits and pieces. It's cloudy. Of course that was like the whole point I guess so there's that. I should be thankful for what I do remember"
"The whole point of what?"
'Shit. No, I'm still not ready for this conversation.'
"The point of having been here, on this alien planet. It makes you forget. Doesn't it make you forget?"
He thought about it before answering. "I've started to forget what it was like to lust for certain things, like power and approval. But my memories remain intact. Although, many of them that I have weren't mine to begin with."
"OK so what does that mean?"
"I learned, not too long before coming here, that my life was not my own. It was orchestrated and the life that I was meant to live I didn't even fully experience. I was shown through a lens what they had planned for me but I never lived it. I'm not even completely sure if it all really came to pass."
Clara felt a pit in her stomach as he was talking. Her guilt was getting worse, but the longer it went on, the harder it was to fess up.
They were interrupted by flashes of lightning and the distant rumble of thunder. The rain started almost immediately as if the entire sky was falling down on them.
"Oh shit!" Clara got up and ran to her tent, she stopped at the door and turned back to see Loki still sitting next to the now extinguished fire. She yelled for him. "Oh come on you idiot."
Both inside the tent Loki shook off the rain and remarked on the surprising durability of the tent. Not a leak in sight.
"I'm pretty sure it's enchanted somehow. I traded it back in my early days here and it's held up well."
"If not a bit cramped for two." Loki offered.
"It's fine, we can make do for one night. But don't get used to it!"
The nights were relatively cool and while Clara had blankets, she was wet and didn't want to unroll them. The wet didn't really sit nicely in the cold night air during a rainstorm but she tried her best not to let it get to her and start shivering. She failed and Loki, of course, took notice.
"Come here." His voice was low and soft, almost creamy.
"No it's fine, really, I'll dry up soon enough and we can get out the blankets.
Loki shrugged off his wet shirt and looked at her expectantly. "Come. I won't turn my godly charm on you, promise."
Clara snorted but conceded. She mirrored him and took her shirt off. Moving a few inches to press her back against his chest, letting his arms surround her and hold her close.
'I have been alone entirely too long for this shit.' She thought. But luckily that was her last thought and she was asleep, feeling warmer, and safe.
