Loki awoke with the moon shining brightly in the sky, winking at him as usual. His whole body was damaged and just sitting up nearly broke him in two. He found that he had been bandaged and washed. He could smell a salve on his chest and head that calmed him and put a light smile on his face. It was lemony and soothing. He looked around expectantly but there was no one near. Getting up and stretching his legs, he tried to sort his last memories and get a bearing on where he was now and, well, what to do next.
'What's new?' He thought indignantly.
"There you go again, feeling sorry for yourself. It's really not a good look." Not Mobius gently teased Loki's hair like a father might his son.
Loki shook him off and stood up, wincing at the pain in his head.
Near the spot he had been sitting he found a small pile of reeds, woven together like a basket with a lid. He opened it, maybe a little more cautiously than was necessary, and let out a surprised laugh when he saw what was inside. His rescuers had given him a basket of food.
There was only one of each item, mostly fruits and nuts, and he supposed it allowed them to give him a bigger variety so he could learn what he could and couldn't eat here. Considering he hadn't had a chance to tell them himself that he was failing miserably at surviving on his own, that meant they must have been watching him for quite some time. He considered this for a long time, and gave an awkward wave and a slight smile to the land before him before continuing his rummaging. There was also bread, and a small bit of cheese and dried meat as well.
Loki took his time laying out each item in front of him, memorizing the shapes and colors, picking each one up to inspect the textures and smells too. Giving each one its own name to help him remember.
Suddenly he was insatiable and wondered vaguely how long he had been unconscious and what had happened to the barbaric men after he freed those people.
As hungry as he was he tried to eat slowly and enjoy this gift. Still, he couldn't help feeling less than grateful that he was left alone, again. He shot a dirty look up at the blushing moon.
"It's your doing isn't it?"
The moon smiled back. His little act of heroism had been entirely lost on him. Loki was too busy feeling sorry for himself, as usual, a strange trait to retain after all that he had been through and learned. That was ok, he was about to be rewarded for saving them, regardless.
Saving most of his food for later, Loki lay back down and stared up at the night sky. The longer he stared back at the moon, the more uneasy he got and without realizing it, he had drifted into another sleep. Except this time was the first time he had dreamed since coming to this planet. It wasn't pleasant.
************
There was a sensation like being struck by lightning and Loki was awake. He was dripping, as usual, but this time with sweat. His breathing was constrained and intense and his eyes were burning with tears. There was something so familiar and heartbreaking about that feeling. It almost felt like a memory, something he had actually lived through, but he felt more anticipation than reflection, so maybe, it was something he hasn't lived through just yet. .
Loki grabbed down at his chest, clutching his soaked shirt. There he had the strangest sensation that there was an invisible rope tied to his spine, tugging him forward. He stood, catching his breath, blinking and trying to gain focus, taking in his surroundings and noting that it was still dark out. Tug tug.
'Come sweet child. This way'
He immediately took a defensive stance. Wildy searching for the source of that voice. It was smooth, milky and utterly terrifying. Neither male nor female.
