♧ 30: Lucky Star ♣
"Are you sure you don't want to come in?" I ask, peering into Trinity's car, resting my arm on the rolled window.
Trinity gives me a dead look before motioning to her pink bathrobe and matching slippers. "Dressed in this?" She asks. "Yeah, I'll pass."
"It's not too bad," I say, trying to keep a straight face. It's obvious that I'm lying, but I figured that considering everything, I should at least try to ease her worries.
Again, Trinity stares at me, unmoved. "Yeah, I'd rather not risk it," and then adds quickly, "Besides, I don't think I want to be there when you confess your love to Niall. So, I'm just gonna head home."
I nod in understanding; or maybe it was the fact that I would've found it incredibly awkward if she tagged along, so I'm happy she refused. "Well, thank you again. You know, for everything."
Trinity nods in response, and then in a suddenly serious tone, she adds. "Just do me a favor?"
I look at her questioningly. "Um, yeah, what is it?"
"Just make him happy," Trinity says, readjusting her hands on the steering wheel as she looks back out to the street. "That's all I want."
I purse my lips. Feelings of guilt and compassion still lingering. "I'll try my best," I nod as I lean off of the car, giving her space. "See you."
"Bye, Maddy," She replies.
I wait for her to turn back at me, however, she keeps her eyes forward before stepping on the gas. I watch as her small sports car peels out of the parking lot, leaving me alone.
I have to admit, it's weird. I still can't grasp the thought that Trinity actually helped me. I mean, after two months of hating each other she went against everything and brought me here. She knew what it would mean if she did and yet she still went with it. Despite the awkward car ride up, which was filled with me tapping on my leg to the pop song on the radio as Trinity drove in silence, humming to the tune; it was worth it because, now I feel like things are finally over between Trinity and I. Now, I don't have to worry.
The only thing I need to do is find Niall.
Or at least wait until the concert is over.
The last option probably makes more sense.
Turning around, I take in the large fenced area of the concert. I'm actually somewhat relieved that it's outside rather than being stuffed up in a room with all these screaming girls. From my spot, I can hear the base of a song thumping away to it's beat. Looking at my phone, I see that the concert had already started about fifteen minutes ago.
I have great timing.
Quickly, I make my way over to the front entrance where a large man is stationed, collecting the tickets of people who are coming in late. I step up to him, reaching into my pocket.
"Ticket?" He asks, holding out his hand.
"One second," I answer as I search for the ticket Harry had given me.
When I don't feel it, I hold up one finger towards the impatient ticket collector and search through my backpack. There is no doubt in my mind that I am making this guy upset. I probably closely resemble an old lady at a busy grocery store who is desperately searching her coin purse, trying to pay for her merchandise with exact change. However, no matter how many items I take out, I can't seem to find my pass. It's not long before I am on the floor, all the contents of my backpack lying in front of me; and still I'm ticket-less.
"Ticket, ma'am," The guy repeats.
"Um, hold on," I mutter. "I have a backstage pass here somewhere."
Where the hell is it? It has to be here. Harry just gave me my ticket this morning so it has to be here somewhere. It has to. Where did I put it once Harry gave it to me? I try my hardest to recount my steps, but no matter how hard I try, four hours ago seems like a million years.
Did I even put it in my backpack?
"If you don't have a ticket," The man says, "I can't let you in."
"Will you give me a second?" I snap. "I think I misplaced it."
Stuffing my belongings back into my bag, I recheck each item just in case it had fallen in some strange place. However, as if by some stroke of horrible, horrible luck, I don't find it.
If I didn't put it in my backpack on my way out; did I leave it on the counter? Or maybe...
My eyes widen in horror. My jacket. I put my pass in my jacket pocket, which I had forgotten back at Beatz. God, if there were a time that I've ever wanted to kick myself, now would be it. How did I manage to pull this off? I'm so stupid.
"I'm sorry, but no ticket, no entry," He tells me in a stiff tone. "That's the rules."
"No, no, no."
I clench my jaw in annoyance. Why is this happening to me now? Now of all times? I'm already late as it is! Can't people give me a break once? I stand up, throwing my strap over my shoulder as I look up at the man.
"Look, I can't find my tick-"
"No ticket, no entry," He repeats.
"But I have one!" I insist desperately. "I just can't find it."
"I can't let you in without a ticket," He says sternly.
I take a deep breath, trying to calm myself. I have to get in somehow. "Look, I know you must get this a lot, but I know One Direction personally and i-"
"Oh, no," He sighs. "Not another one."
"Another one?" Did someone else use this excuse today?
"Look, Lady," He says, putting his hand in his pocket. "I know you may think that I can just let you in without a ticket, but this is for charity. If I let you in for free, that's equivalent to stealing from the poor. I can't do that."
I can't help but get annoyed. Although I appreciate his dedication and morality, I can't help but find him to be anything but helpful at this moment. Can't he see the I'm in sort of a rush? I don't have time to explain anything to him!
I purse my lips. "But this is my charity!" I snap, throwing my arms in the air. "I put this together with Niall Horan. You have to know that."
"I don't know who was in charge of this," He says casually, "I just handle the tickets."
"But I don't have my ticket," I say for what feels like the fiftieth time. "You have to believe me, I know One Direction. I'm friends with them."
"And I'm cousins with Opera," He mocks in a loud laugh.
"Really!" I insist, ignoring his sarcastic remark. "Just let me in and I'll prove it to you."
"Sorry, not happening."
Is there no getting through to this guy? Why do these charity events have to have such tight security? I need to talk to Paul about this. But right now it seems like this guy won't budge for anything.
"Quick! What's that over there!" I shout loudly, pointing over his shoulder dramatically.
The man doesn't flinch.
I drop my arm. "Aren't you at least going to look?"
"Nope," He says, his eyes straight forward.
"But what if there was something there?" I question.
"But there isn't," He says coolly. "You need to work on your acting skills."
I can't help but feel offended. Clenching my jaw, I narrow my gaze at him. "Look, I appreciate you doing your job and what not, but can't you look the other way, just this once?"
"Now, like I said before, no ticket, n-"
"No entry," I wave off in anger. "Yeah, yeah, I heard you the last ten times."
"Well, then if you can make way out," He says pointing off to the side. "I have customers who actually have tickets coming."
I scowl at him as I reluctantly step off to the side right as a small group of girls come along. I watch in envy as they reach into their purse and pull out three tickets, one for each of them, and give it to the strict ticket collector. Quickly, he takes the tickets, rips a portion and hands it back to them, suddenly smiling as he directs the right way to their seats.
If only my life could be that easy.
In an attempt to prove to this guy, I grab my phone and quickly dial Paige's number. If anyone can clear this up it's Paige Carter, Harry's girlfriend. She must be back stage right now. As I'm waiting for her to answer, I tap my foot impatiently.
"Come on, Paige," I whisper into the phone right as the fifth ring sounds.
As the automated voice fills my ear, I groan, ending the call. Just as quickly, I dial Eleanor's number. However, I still get no answer. They must have their phones off or somewhere they can't reach it. I quickly send Paige a text to call me as soon as she can. Well this sucks, I can't call any of the boys because they're on stage right now, so Eleanor and Paige were my only hope.
What can I do? Go back to Beatz and get my ticket? I quickly toss out that idea. That'll waste too much time and I don't even have a car to drive me across the city.
Then, something hits me.
Without wasting anymore time, I quickly dial his number and wait. On the second ring, I hear Montey pick up.
Or at least I hear the background noise, which consists of loud thumping and cheering. This is basically what I'm hearing right now, but only ten times louder. Montey is definitely inside.
"Hello?" I can hear Montey shout in to the phone.
"Montey, it's Maddy," I say urgently. "I need your help."
I pause, waiting for his answer. However, due to the loud noise, I can't hear a single word properly.
"Wait, what?" I ask in confusion.
Again, I know Montey is saying something, but I can't make out a single word due to the shouts. A few seconds later, I hear him. His voice is breathy as if he just ran a mile.
"Man," He says exhausted, "These girls...they're demons. I....never expected them to be this crazy. I feel like my masculinity is slowly dwindling down. I had to push my way through them just to get to the back."
"So, I'm guessing there is a lot of people?" I ask curiously.
"A lot is an understatement," Montey replies. "It's like a whole city of hormonal teenage girls. I think I'm going to die of suffocation. And to think I paid good money for this ticket."
I couldn't help but roll my eyes at his remark. "Montey, as much as I love hearing you complain about your wasted money, I need help."
"What sort of help?"
I can just see him narrowing his eyes at me, in a way that he'd be asking, "How much is this going to cost me?"
"Don't worry, I don't want money," I say quickly and I can hear Montey release a sigh of relief. Checking over my shoulder, I look back at the guard before continuing off to the side and out of sight behind the tarp-covered fence.
"But," I continue, "I am wondering of if you'd be willing to help me sneak in."
"Wait. Shouldn't you have like VIP Access or something?" he asks. "You did solve everything when that Harry boy came over, right? I knew I should've stayed and supervi-"
"No, no, that's all settled," I say quickly. "It's just now I need to co-"
"Confront Niall, right?" Monety finishes for me.
"Yeah," I answer, knowing that Montey has pretty much already caught on. Smart man.
"Which brings me back to, where is your pass?"
"Uh, I sorta, kinda forgot it," I say, scratching the back of my neck.
"Sorta, kinda?" He repeats. The disappointment in his voice is hard to miss.
"Look, I was in a hurry to leave this afternoon. So, I forgot my jacket and backstage pass. Sue me for being human," I say defensively.
"Wait, you didn't forget to lock the shop door, did you?" Montey asks, panic stricken.
I pause, remembering the moment I left the shop. "No, I locked it. I remember because I checked it twice."
Again, Montey exhales deeply. "Thank god."
"So, will you help me, or what?" I ask.
"Well, of course. You should know that back in my youth, sneaking into concerts was my specialty," He answers. "Meet me at the east side fence in three minutes," Montey answers without hesitation. "Let's go get you a boyfriend."
~*~
"Okay, can you tell me why this is a good idea?" I ask as I stare at Montey through the fence, plugging up my nose with my arm.
"Because it's the only way up," He answers simply.
I purse my lips, still not convinced. "I'm not so sure."
Montey gives me a dead look. "Do you want to get in or what?"
That was an easy question. However, the getting in part was the difficult part. Although this all seems like the best way to get in for Montey, I just don't see me pulling this off.
I look at him in disbelief. "I just don't see how you expect me to climb onto these," I say in disgust as I point to the porta-potties that lined the outside of the fenced off area. "Its gross."
"Well, It's either climb over these or the fence that's double your height," Montey points out. "The only way you'll be able to hop this fence is by using those as a lift. Gross? Yes, but useful? Most definitely."
I glare at him. Why does he have to be right? There is no way I could climb the fence without getting a six foot head start. I'm short as it is and the extremely tall fence isn't working in my favor. If I want to get in, I'd have to climb the toilets. It's the only way.
The things I get myself into.
"Fine," I mutter as I step towards the potty. "But you better help me down."
"Throw your backpack over," Montey says.
Taking the strap, I swing my arm in a circular motion before releasing it. I watch as it sails over the fence an over to Montey, who let's it drop to the floor.
"You could've at least caught it," I mutter.
"Sorry," He says, "Just come on, climb over quickly before someone notices."
