Epilogue: Luckiest of All

"Okay, I'm only going to ask this once," Louis says in a mock upset tone. "And if you come out now and admit it, I won't punish you. So, tell me, who took the last biscuit? Everyone knows I called it."

Typical of Louis. However, it's true that he did call the last biscuit, which is why I purposely stayed away from getting a second one. Everyone knows what would happen if you crossed Louis. Bad things. Like waking up on the roof.

However, I can't help but find this amusing. I've lived with One Direction for practically five months now and I still find everything about them amusing. It's never a dull moment and I really have Niall to thank for that. We've been dating for three months now and yet it still feels like the first day. I can still remember the day of the charity event. I can still hear the melody to the song Niall had written for me. I can still feel the eyes of thousands of fans hitting my back as Niall kissed me.

I can recall everything as if it were yesterday.

And yet, despite how close that day feels, today is just as important. Today is my first Christmas away from home. My first Christmas with One Direction.

My first Christmas with Niall.

I smile to myself as I recall today's events. From having Louis and Liam jump on my bed to wake me, to Eleanor bursting through the door bearing Starbucks coffee for everyone to  opening gifts, which I admit wasn't normal.

As expected, Liam took charge and handed out everyone's present. However, every time Louis gained a new present, he'd make everyone pause just so he could spend five minutes trying to use his psychic powers to 'feel' what is inside. Every guess was way off. In fact, for multiple gifts he was convinced that a baby dinosaur was inside. Of course the closest thing to that was the eggs Niall was eating for breakfast at the moment.

Again, amusing.

It was just as fun watching everyone's faces as they opened up their presents. Especially Paige when she received two plane tickets back to Orlando from Harry. I don't know when they're going but whenever that is, she's excited.

Me, on the other hand, got a lot of school supplies from everyone. And I'm not talking about paper and notebooks. Zayn got me a new bag, which I can use as a 'fashionable backpack' as he put it. He got me that to make up for the backpack he broke when I first moved in. Harry and Liam both pitched in to buy me my school textbooks for my first semester, which doesn't sound too exciting, but in reality, it's amazing. Especially when you consider how expensive those things are. On the other hand, Louis  bought me an iPod, which I thought wasn't school related, which in return Louis went on and on about how I can listen to music or go on Twitter while in class when I get bored. Paige got me this really cute laptop bag and USB.

And then Niall got me a new laptop. Now, I don't know much about laptops but as soon as I opened it, it looked expensive. Even Liam was freaking out about how much storage space it has.

All in all, I felt like my gifts to them couldn't match up.

It took me a while to pick out everyone gifts but after three months of saving my paychecks from Beatz, I was able to at least get everyone a decent gift. Even if it's not something spectacular, it's still a little something to show them how much they really mean to me.

But more importantly, to thank them for staying with me.

I got Zayn a box filled with this special hair product that is supposed to condition and volumize his hair. Or at least that what the people at the salon said. I got Liam a Batman action figure, which Montey had sold to me. Luckily it was still in the box because Liam freaked out when he saw it because apparently, it was some kind of collectible.

I got Harry two new beanies and a new steering wheel cover. I got Louis, much to Paige's protest, a gag box filled with different prank items. Which he's already tested out on Paige.  I got Paige a new purse. I didnt really know what kind to get, so I just picked the most normal looking one I saw at the shop, since Paige seems like a very subtle kind of girl. On the other hand, I got Eleanor a gift card to Starbucks and various other coffee blends from there. I'm not big on giving people gift cards as a present but when I asked her what she wanted she insisted on a gift card.

And lastly, I got Niall two gifts. One being the one I gave to him this morning, which was a new guitar strap. All last month he kept mentioning how his current strap is shredding at the tips so I figured he'd need a new one and luckily, he was happy about receiving the strap. However, despite that, I took the liberty of getting him a second present; one that I have yet to give him. It's not like I'm not going to give it to him, I'd just rather wait until we're alone.

And at the end of the day, much to my relief, everyone loved their gifts.

"Alright," Louis says again, "No one wants to come out and confess? Will I have to do this the hard way?"

Almost immediately, I turn to Niall, who is too busy devouring his own plate of food to be worried about what Louis is complaining about. However, after a few seconds of silence, Niall looks up and meets my gaze and then looks towards everyone else. It's then when I notice that I'm not the only one at the table who expected Niall to eat Louis' claimed biscuit.

"What?" Niall asks, dropping his fork.

"Was it you?"

"Me?" Niall repeats, furrowing his brow.

"Ah ha!" Louis shouts pointing his finger at Niall. "An admitation! So it was you!"

"An admitation?" Zayn repeats dumbly.

"Yeah, I don't think that's a word," Liam informs Louis, wiping his mouth with a napkin.

"Well, it is a word, Mr. Know-It-All," Louis shoots back at Liam before returning his icy stare towards Niall, who is looking around in confusion. "I just made it up now. Impressive, huh?"

"Not really," Zayn laughs.

Before Louis can even reply,  Liam continues,

"Why make up a word when there is already one? I think the word you're looking for is confession."

"Why do you have to do that?" Louis asks in defeat. "It's not fun when you correct me."

"See that makes a lot more sense," Harry agrees. "Maybe I should've gotten Lou a thesaurus for Christmas instead, huh?"

Everyone let's out a laugh except Louis.

"Hey! I'm not giving my shirt back," Louis says, as he hugs the brand new shirt that Harry had gotten him. It's custom made and in large block lettering across the chest, it says, Beware General Tommo. "Whose side are you on anyways?"

"I'm not on anyones side, Lo-"

"You should be on my side!" Louis cuts him off, sadly "I thought we were best mates? What about all those fond memories? All those late nigh-"

"Okay, Louis," Eleanor laughs as she places he hand on top of Louis'. "No one wants to hear about your secret rendezvous' with Harry."

"I just want justice!" Louis replies easily, "Is that too much to ask?"

Harry gives Louis a dead look.

Knowing that this conversation is going to last for a while, I turn to Niall who is still looking confused. I smile reassuringly before asking him,

"So, did you take the last biscuit?" I ask curiously.

"Is that what Louis is upset about?" Niall asks as if this is the first time he's heard this, which it probably is.

"You really don't pay attention when you eat, huh?" I ask, a smile playing on my lips.

"Hey, eating is a serious matter," Niall says defensively, although I can tell he is joking. "You have to put all your concentration on enjoying it or else it's all wasted."

"Really?" I question, raising my brow curiously.

"Oh, yeah," Niall nods his head. "It's Niall Horan's Rules to Eating."

"You should write a book on that," I say with a laugh.

Niall laughs, "Sounds good to me! To Eat or Not To Eat! It'll be a picture book, too. What could be better?"

I'm about to reply when Louis' voice pierced through the room.

"Paige!" He yells. "So it was you! I knew it! To the gallows!"

Niall and I immediately break our gaze and look over at Paige, who is seated next to Harry. It's then that I realize her cheeks are blown up, giving her the look of a squirrel storing nuts. She then shakes her head as she desperately tries to swallow whatever is in her mouth. By now I can only guess what happened. Considering Paige hasn't talked and now she is being accused of stealing Louis' biscuit. My guess is that as soon as Louis asked who took the biscuit, Paige tried to swallow all evidence.

"Whoa, Lou," Liam says.

"Aren't you getting too worked up?" Harry asks.

"Yeah, it's just a biscuit," I say.

"Just a biscuit?" Niall repeats, as if I just said something unspeakably horrible.

"It's not about the busicut!" Louis insists. "It's the principle of the matter. Did you know that this could be considered treason in some countries," Louis informs Paige smartly.

By now, Paige has managed to swallow the bread. "Well, technically it wasn't yours..."

"But I called dibs," Louis points out. "You have to respect the rules of Dibs."

"It's true," Zayn nods, "It's the rules of all humanity."

"Not only the rules of humanity," Louis adds dramatically, "But that is a full out Code Orange!"

"Code Orange?" Paige asks curiously. "That's a new one."

"And furthermore," Louis says loudly, pointing his index finger up smartly, "This has no relation to the matter at hand, but did you know that in some countries they punish thieves by dragging them through the streets, tied to a zebra attached at their pinky toe. Their pinky toe!"

"A zebra?" Zayn repeats curiously, "That kinda sounds fun."

"And that has no relation to this at all?" I question, looking between Louis and Paige.

"Yeah, that sounds more like a threat," Paige points out smartly.

"Wait," Liam says, looking at Louis, "What country is that? I've never heard of this."

"Um, it's the country of..." Louis trails off for a moment before answering, "No-thieves...icstan?"

"No-thieves-icstan?" Paige repeats dumbly. "You just made that up."

"No I didn't! It's near the country of Noneofyourbusinessia!" Louis replies defensively.

"Yeah, I think I've heard of that place," Zayn agrees, and for a split second Louis sees hope. "It's right next to Lie-stanbul."

And just like that all of Louis' hope vanishes, "Why is everyone ganging up on me? I'm the victim here! I'm biscuit-less!"

"Victim? You're threatening Paige!"

"I just wanted a biscuit!"

"I just want to know where you're getting your facts."

"I'm just messing with ya, Lou."

"I'm not!"

"This is dumb!"

"Your face is dumb!"

"I just want some Christmas biscuits! That's all I ask!"

"We know!"

"Okay you need to j-"

"Can't we all just get along like we did in middle school?" I shout over everyone.

Everyone freezes and it takes a moment for everyone to realize what I was talking about. For a second, I think I said the wrong quote, but once Eleanor cracks a smile, I know I got it.

"She doesn't even go here!" Eleanor shouts back, pointing her finger at me.

And just like that everyone cracks up. The tension fades away and for a while, it's like we totally forgot why everyone was shouting. Even Louis is laughing along with Eleanor.

Thank god for Mean Girls quotes. Saving Christmas Dinners for god knows how long!

Just then, Harry gets up from his seat and makes his way back into the kitchen. Everyone watches him in silence and confusion. I look at Paige who is just as confused as I am.

"Is he mad?" Eleanor asks, leaning towards Paige.

However, before Paige can even come up with an answer, Harry is back with a basket. Without a single word, Harry places it in front of Louis and takes his seat.

"There you go," Harry says as he is scooting his chair back in. "There was a second batch in the kitchen."

Louis looks down into the basket and pulls out two biscuits. His eyes grow large and his lips pull into a smile. He turns his attention back to Harry, as he looks at him as if he just saved his life.

"You're a saint, Mr. Styles!" Louis cheers, "A saint, I tell you!"

"Just don't kill my girlfriend and we'll be good," Harry cracks a smile before turning his gaze towards me. "Oh, and Maddy."

"Huh?" I ask.

Harry leans forward handing over an envelope. "I saw this on the counter. It's for you."

I take hold of the mail and examine it. It can't be a letter from my parents because they had already sent me my Christmas present three days ago. Looking at the return address, I immediately recognize the address from three months ago.

"Oh yeah, that came in the other day," Liam says, "I forgot to give it to you, sorry."

"It's fine," I say, opening up the white envelope.

I can feel everyone's eyes on me as I pull out a piece of paper. As I unfold it, something falls out. Looking down, I see a small wallet sized photo. Picking it up, I can't help but smile as I see it.

It's a picture of a couple standing in front of the Eiffel Tower. The girls blonde hair is bright compared to the black hat that is pulled over her head, which is resting on her boyfriends shoulder. I don't recognize the boy though. He has dark brown hair and hazel eyes. Across his chin, I can see a bit of scruff. His arm is wrapped around her waist in affection as he stares at her. He's not even looking at the camera. A genuine smile is spread across his lips, dimples and all. In fact, that's how both of them look.

Truly happy.

I feel Niall lean over in his seat. "Is that...Trinity?"

I don't look up, but nod. "Sure is. That's her boyfriend. Luke, I think."

Thinking back to my feelings about Trinity three months ago, I guess it'd be weird that I'd be recording mail from her; let alone knowing the name of her current boyfriend. However, after what happened between us, it only felt natural to fall into terms with her. I admit, she still gets on my nerves, but I understand her more. She has an annoying way of showing affection; but it's genuine.

"Ooo, let me see!" Eleanor says excitedly. I hand over the picture and everyone leans over, looking in awe.

"She looks different," Harry points out.

"She does."

"Did she dye her hair?"

"Botox?"

"Stupid, it's obvious she lost weight."

I shake my head, "Look closer."

Paige leans closer and almost immediately, I see her eyes light up. "She's not wearing any make up."

I smile. "Yup, no more eye gunk for her."

As everyone continues commenting on the photo, I open up the letter and am greeted with just one sentence.

I hope you have a happy Christmas.
