"Alright, someone explain the 'Not recommended'. I've heard it twice in reference to Stark, so someone fess up!"
Quill yelled, glaring at the original team.
Nat withers, " That's my fault, I-"
"We're not talking about that anymore," Tony said suddenly,
"It's in the past. Leave the weary to rest, so to speak".
Quill and crews wanted to push, wanted to know what this meant, but Peter supplied something else to think about.
"I want to see the original argument". He said quietly.
"The helicarrier? We already-" Steve started.
"No." He said forcefully, "Three weeks after the snap. Friday?"
A large holo screen appeared before them, and they watched.
STEVE ROGERS: We've been hunting Thanos for three weeks now. Deep Space scans, and satellites, and we got nothing. Tony, you fought him.
TONY STARK: Who told you that? [Surprised] I didn't fight him. No, he wiped my face with a planet while the Bleecker Street Magician gave away the store. That's what happened. There was no fight.
They blanch are that....
STEVE ROGERS: Okay.
TONY STARK: He's unbeatable.
STEVE ROGERS: Did he give you any clues, any coordinates, anything?
TONY STARK: Pfft! I saw this coming a few years back. I had a vision.
Wanda flinches
I didn't wanna believe it. Thought I was dreaming.
STEVE ROGERS: Tony, I'm gonna need you to focus.
TONY STARK: [starting to seethe] And I needed you.
Steve lowers his head, he didn't realize how honest he was being.
As in past tense. That trumps what you need. It's too late buddy. Sorry. You know what I need? [Tony stands, pushing things off the table with a clatter. Everyone winces at the noise.]
Everyone is taken aback, except those who were there, at how hard he was grieving
I need to shave. And I believe I remember telling all youse -(ripping out the I.V)
[Tony goes for Steve. Rhodey quickly comes in front of him, trying to stop him.]
RHODEY: Tony, Tony, Tony!
TONY STARK: Alive and otherwise what we needed was a suit of armor around the world! Remember that? Whether it impacted our precious freedoms or not- that's what we needed!
Sam looks at tony, "You said a vision? The portal.... that was what you saw- you created Ultron after seeing that.." he trails off, putting pieces together. Wanda can feel the others gazes on her.
STEVE ROGERS: Well, that didn't work out, did it?
TONY STARK: I said, "we'd lose". You said, "We'll do that together too." And guess what, Cap? We lost. And you weren't there.
They breathe a sigh of relief that Steve wasn't the cruel enemy that they had seen.
But that's what we do, right? Our best work after the fact? We're the Avengers, we're the Avengers. Not the Prevengers.
RHODEY: Okay.
TONY STARK: Right?
RHODEY: You made your point. Just sit down.
