Four months later--
Yo fiddled with the moon pendant hanging around his neck nervously. All these months, and he still hadn't met Pha's parents. Both the Alpha and Luna of the Bangkok Pack had been too busy dealing with some rogue wolves, business deals with other species, and getting the human police force off their back for a couple crimes committed by wolves. Those wolves hadn't been part of a pack, so when the police automatically assumed that they were from the Bangkok Pack since the crimes were done in Bangkok, it had caused quite the angry reaction from Pha's mom and dad.
Not to mention the whole pack backing them up.
Yo could only hope none of them found reason to dislike him. Yes, he was a cat shifter, and a purebred housecat at that! But he and Pha were meant for each other. They could feel it.
"It'll be okay, kitten," Pha snaked an arm around Yo's waist to pull him close. "Mom and dad will love you. Just wait and see."
"But I'm not a wolf-"
"That doesn't matter. All they want is for me to be happy. And, Yo," Pha brushed a loving kiss over Yo's temple. "You make me very happy. So don't worry, okay?"
The cab the two shifters were in pulled up to a gated driveway. "Bangkok Wolf Pack. That'll be ฿621, please."
Yo swallowed hard, following Pha out of the cab after the wolf paid the fare. He stared out over the wooded area, wondering how many wolves were in there staring back at him, if they could imagine their Alpha's heir coming home with a cat shifter as his future mate. The Wolf Moon was tonight.
The pack wouldn't try to interfere with Pha claiming Yo...right?
A middle-aged woman opened the gate, her eyes narrowed suspiciously at Yo while she asked Pha, "Who's the cat? Your parents only said you were coming back."
"To claim my mate," Pha said coldly, warning the other shifter.
Surprise flashed through the woman's eyes. "Forgive me, Pha," she bowed her head in respect. "I did not mean to insult your mate."
Yo clung to Pha's arm, trembling as he detected more wolves than just the one in front of them, coming their way. And their scents were hostile. "P'Pha..." he hid his face in Pha's chest as a few shifters came bounding into view. Why couldn't he have claimed me at school! Yo hated feeling so vulnerable, surrounded by shifters that could tear him apart.
Pha growled at them in warning, pushing Yo behind him. "Shift back to human, now! You're frightening my mate!"
Immediately, all but two wolves shifted to human, uncaring of their nakedness as they sniffed the air curiously. The two still as wolves whined pitifully, lowering their snouts to the ground, eyes still locked on Yo, though no longer hostile.
Then a voice from the dark woods called out, "Pha, is that you?"
"Mom," Pha relaxed. With his mom around, the pack wouldn't dare do anything.
Pha's mother was a beauty with long, dark hair, sparkling black eyes, and a warm smile on her face. "Darling, you didn't say he was so adorable!" she enthused, moving forward to grasp Yo's hand and shake it. "Hello, I'm Pha's mom, Lily. It's very nice to meet you, sweetie."
Yo's mouth dropped open in shock for a moment. Then he remembered himself, and inclined his head, waii-ing Lily after she took her hand back. "It's very nice to meet you, too, ma'am."
Lily laughed, waving a hand. "Please, call me P'Lily. Ma'am makes me feel old."
"Mom, you'll never be old," Pha smirked.
