Beam tried to find a more comfortable position for his aching back. He made a face, and leaned against Forth's shoulder, glad the weight was off one hip, but now there was more pressure on the other.
Oh well.
He didn't mind it all too much.
He tipped his head back and caught Forth glancing away, smiling dopily. Beam wanted to laugh. Forth had been smiling ever since the pack healer had given them the news that Beam was finally pregnant. It had taken them three heats to have their own pups. Beam hated the heats because when Forth wasn't around, he was hot, sweaty, and it hurt. But he was fine with the heats as long as Forth helped him through them.
Luckily, Forth was only late with helping Beam on the first one. Beam hadn't known what a heat felt like, and he'd called off sick for classes, staying by himself until he was positive he had to be dying, and swallowed his pride to call Forth for help. He was very embarrassed to learn from Forth that what he was going through was called a heat. He'd heard of them from Yo and Kit, but it never registered that even though he was a human omega, he'd go through heats as well.
You learn something new everyday.
At the moment, they were at the pack hospital, waiting for Pha and Yo's second litter to be born. Lily was keeping an eye on the first litter of pups and kittens - three pup boys, one pup girl, two kitten girls, and one kitten boy - letting them run around in the nursery. Kit and Ming had had quadruplets: one kitten boy, one kitten girl, one pup boy and one pup girl.
Beam looked down at his belly, relieved he was only having two. Thank goodness for his human genes at work! There was no way he wanted to be as huge as Kit and Yo had gotten while pregnant. The only downside to his human genes being mainly in control was he had to suffer through nine whole months of carrying the babies around, while Kit and Yo only had to do it for about four months.
"Tired, Beamie?"
Beam pressed closer into Forth's side, nodding quietly. He'd been more tired lately, now that the twins were bigger and more active, targeting his kidneys and bladder with their tiny feet and hands. He yawned and allowed his eyes to slip shut, intent on taking a short nap.
A door opened. "Five this time," Pha's voice was proud. "Two girl pups, and three kitten boys. All of them healthy and whole."
"Congrats, Pha," Kit said warmly.
Beam cracked his eyes open, giving Pha a tired but happy smile. "Yeah, congrats, Pha."
Pha's eyes flicked to Forth. "How's he doing?"
"Tired, as usual. The twins are really doing a number on his kidneys."
The older wolf made a sympathetic grimace. "Yo hissed at me a lot when the septuplets started doing that. At least it's only twins for you two."
Forth nodded, dropping a kiss on Beam's head. Beam was slowly slipping back off to sleep already. He snuggled into Forth's chest, eyes closed. "He's got two more months to go, thank Buddha. I hate seeing him so miserable."
"It's worth it," Kit spoke up. "When you hold your babies for the first time? It's all definitely worth it." He turned back to Pha. "How's Yo?"
"Tired. He fell asleep already, but wants everyone to see the babies," Pha puffed up with pride again.
Kit raised an eyebrow. "You and Yo are strange. I'm not having more until the quads are in preschool."
Ming nuzzled Kit's neck, not arguing with him. He was in full agreement on waiting to have more. The quads were taking up all of his lovely mate's attention as it was now! He didn't want to be jealous of his own children, but he couldn't help it. He loved the quads very much, and was proud to be their daddy, but...a wolf could only take so much separation from his mate.
