"He still hasn't woken up..."

James placed a hand on his son's shoulder, both watching over Yo as the small cat shifter slept on, unaware of their presence. "He went through a traumatic experience, Pha. Plus, it's only been a couple days. Give him time."

Pha wished he was a young wolf cub again, able to go to his mother for comfort and be soothed by her sweet voice singing him a lullaby and her arms rocking him. But he was a full grown wolf, and needed to stand on his own two feet, even with his recently claimed mate injured and in the pack hospital.

Outside the door stood Beam and Kit, the latter pressed into Beam's side for comfort. Ming and Forth were currently guarding Park, being the only wolves Pha trusted right now to keep the cat from escaping his fate, and weren't able to soothe their own partners. Kit curled his arms around himself, wishing he could go see Ming. But Ming had expressly forbidden him from coming within fifty feet of Park. The shifter was shackled in a basement room that had no windows - for the time being - but Ming didn't want to take any chances. Who knew what Park might do if he managed to free himself?

Beam carefully led Kit away from the infirmary and away from their distressed friend. It wouldn't do anybody any good to crowd around Yo's bed like vultures and agitate Pha even more.

"You hungry?" Beam asked quietly, trying to remember which way was the pack cafeteria.

Kit didn't respond. He shivered slightly and rested his head on Beam's shoulder.

Okay...maybe his blood sugar is low? Beam walked until they came to the cafeteria, and went inside. The mood was somber, all the pack members solemn and worried about the condition of their future Luna, even the ones who hadn't thought Yo right for the position. Nice. Now that he might be seriously hurt, you finally care. Beam shook his head in disgust. He guided Kit to a chair, then walked up to the buffet to grab them both some food.

Kit gazed off at nothing, chest aching something fierce. He rubbed at it, frowning in confusion, but the ache got worse.

"You okay?" Beam asked as he set a plate of food in front of Kit.

"My chest hurts..." Kit whispered.

Beam watched sharply as his friend again rubbed his chest.

A young wolf burst through the cafeteria door. "The cat got free! He went psycho and injured three wolves before they managed to knock him out!"

Lily stood from her seat at the main table. "Which wolves, Aim?"

"Rex, Lynn, and Ming."

Kit's face paled and he ran from the table, causing the chair to tumble to the floor. Beam was right on his heels.

Ming was complaining about being forced into an infirmary bed as Kit burst through the door. He fell silent, staring at his mate in shock. "KitKat? What're you doing here??"

"I heard you were h-hurt..." Kit panted, rushing over to grab Ming's hand. The pain in his chest was abating now that he was next to his mate. "How are you?"

"He clawed my chest," Ming grimaced, gesturing to the bandages covering his front. "But I'll be okay."

"Maybe a few scars," a female wolf teased.

Ming made a face at her. "Shut up, Noon."

Noon cackled and walked off, carrying a tray of bandages and ointment. "Just make sure Ming stays in that bed until the head healer deems him healed enough to get up, eh?"

"I will," Kit promised. He gave Ming a hard look that had the wolf settling back down on the bed with an unhappy pout. "Stop that, you big baby. Do you know how worried I was when that guy came running in the cafeteria and said you and two other wolves were hurt because of Park?"
