The anxiety made Kit feel like he was going to be sick any moment. As Ming drove, Kit kept crossing and uncrossing his legs, fidgeting with his hands, and sighing under his breath.
They were driving to Kit's house to come clean to his family.
Ming was acting calm and cool, as if telling his omega's family - which, by the way, didn't know he was an omega at all, they still thought he was a beta - that they were mated and claimed was an everyday thing. In fact, this had all been his idea. Kit woke up to Ming packing their things, stating they were going to the Intochar residence, and for Kit to get ready to go.
Kit ran a hand through his hair, hating how it shook. He was scared. His mom and dad didn't approve of interspecies relationships. And they certainly didn't approve of same-sex ones, either. Kit was positive they were going to kick him out of the den.
Well, that doesn't matter anymore, he tried to cheer himself up. I'm no longer a part of the clowder. I'm in Ming's pack now. They can't do anything to me.
"KitKat," Ming softly grasped Kit's hand, bring it to his mouth to kiss the back. "Stop worrying. I won't let anything happen to you, okay? I promise."
"You can't promise that my family will let me be a part of their lives after this," Kit whispered, squeezing his eyes shut.
"No, I can't. But," Ming's voice was tender. "I can promise that I won't let them hurt you. If they try to say or do something, I'll stop them."
"Ming-"
"I won't start a fight, KitKat. But I won't let them make you cry. I won't."
Kit opened his eyes and stared at Ming. The alpha's jaw was hard, teeth clenched together in agitation. With a start, Kit realized his mate was upset with himself, for making Kit cry before. "Ming," he leaned over, resting his head on Ming's shoulder and nuzzling at his neck. "I love you."
Ming breathed a surprised laugh. "I love you too, Kit. So much."

Kit's heart was pounding hard, his hands were sweaty, and he had the intense urge to run back to the car. Ming's firm grip on his hand made that impossible. That, and the knowledge that Ming was right, they had to tell Kit's mom and dad about them claiming each other, made him stand there by Ming's side and wait for someone to open the door. He was about to stretch up on tiptoe and press his nose to Ming's scent gland for a calming sniff when the door suddenly opened.
There stood Khieng, Kit's older brother, staring at the two suspiciously.
"P-P'Khieng," Kit squeezed Ming's hand hard enough he heard the alpha give a pained sound in his throat. "Um...I didn't know you'd be here today."
"Came home to tell mom and dad some news," Khieng's eyes zeroed in on Kit holding hands with Ming, then the bite mark peeking above Kit's collar, and the one on Ming's neck, totally on display. He raised an eyebrow. "But I can see you came with the same news." He stepped back, letting them in. "It's great that you came, Kit. I can introduce you to my own mate. Grandma is gonna love this."
Kit let out a small breath. Crap...grandma is here, too???
"Oh, and P'Karen came back with her mate and litter."
Kit whimpered and immediately stopped, forcing Ming to stop, too. "Ming, I can't go in there! Not with all-"
"It'll be okay."
Kit swallowed hard, blinking away tears of terror. "How do you know??"
Ming cupped Kit's face, ignoring Khieng in the background who was watching the interaction closely, and pressed their foreheads together. "Because I'll be there by your side. I won't leave you. And you have P'Pha and the whole damn Bangkok Pack behind you."
