Nikki's Point of View

I wake up and force myself to get up and take a shower. I'm supposed to go shopping with Chloe and Zoey today at 1:00, and it's already 10:00. I sigh.

I walk inside the shower and feel the warm water go down my back and it's comforting. I wash my hair slowly, savoring the sweet warmth. As soon as I'm done cleaning myself, I walk out and go to my room to change.

I look through my closet for something sweet but simple. I grab some skinny jeans, a baby blue button-up shirt, and some converse. I look in the mirror and I feel satisfied with my outfit.

I walk to the mirror and brush my hair and use my hair dryer to dry it out.

After my hair is dry and neat, I separate it into three parts in order to make a side-braid. I smile and get up, and walk into the kitchen for a snack.

When I walk in, my mom is in the kitchen making a couple of sandwiches.

Mom: "Hello, sweetie."

Nikki: "Hi Mom. What are you doing?"

Mom: "Making some sandwiches for your dad. Want me to make you one?"

Nikki: "You don't mind?"

Mom: "Not at all. You're ready for the mall?"

Nikki: "Yeah."

Mom: "Okay. Brianna's coming, but once we get there I'll bring her with me to shop."

I sigh in relief. I still remember what happened last time Brianna came with me. I shudder.

Nikki: "Thanks, Mom."

Mom: "You're welcome."

Nikki: "I'm gonna go get my bag ready. I'll be back in a minute."

Mom: "Okay."

I walk to my room and grab my purse. I unplug my phone from its charger and place it in my bag. I grab my wallet and headphones and stuff it inside my bag.

When I come back, there's a sandwich on one side of the table. I see my mom sitting on the other side, eating a ham and cheese sandwich.

Nikki: "That mine?"

I point to the one on the table.

My mom nods and I sit down and begin eating my late breakfast/lunch.

I think about how today will go between chews. My moms smiles when I look in her direction, and she clears her throat.

Mom: "Nikki."

I swallow.

Nikki: "Yes?"

Mom: "You know...Brandon is a very nice guy. I'm glad he's there for you. You love him, right?"

I smile softly.

Nikki: "I really do."

Tears fall from my mother's eyes, and it startles me.

Mom: "You're so grown up!"

I just smile and shake my head. I get up to hug her. She smiles and holds me tightly.

Her voice turn serious.

Mom: "If he ever gives you trouble, just tell me."

Nikki: "Okay."

I doubt that'll happen, but I want to reassure her. I'm glad my mom accepts Brandon.

I'm glad he's with me.
