tw: long discussion about addiction to alcohol and abuse. Read at your own risk.
A/N: I am making Emmett 18 in this story just so it's not as big as an age gap
third person pov
After Caroline was changed, she had gone downstairs to sit with the rest of the Cullen's and watch a movie. She assumed Jackson would give her a ride home since they hadn't been back at their house since the previous day.
Her sister had stayed in Edward's room all day, only coming out to eat or get water. She made no attempt to talk to Caroline or even anyone else in the house. But Caroline knew this behavior. She lost one addiction, now she has to make up for it with a new person.
She knew Katherine would eventually tell Edward about her alcoholism, after all she had seen it in a dream a long time ago. There were so many things she would keep out though. Like the fact that she neglected Caroline to the point where the child basically became her own parent.
It was hard to think about where they were before they moved to Forks.
Katherine hadn't started the steps to recovery until a month ago and since then, Caroline walked on eggshells around her. Her sister wasn't the person she knew, no not since all the shit she put Caroline through.
"Katie?" Caroline yelled. She had been upstairs, trying to read their grimoires.
She became more frantic as she searched all around the house. Eventually she had found her sister scavenging through the cupboards. Katherine looked feral. Her eyes had dark circles from lack of sleep. Her eyes looked bloodshot and her hair was practically matted in a ponytail.
With the noise of Caroline's arrival, Katherine's crazed eyes meet her little sister's. "Where is it?"
"Where's what?"
The clash of glass breaking above Caroline's head could be heard throughout the house. The shards fell to the floor and crunched under Caroline's foot. She stared at the woman in front of her, who was barely recognizable at this point.
"Where did you put my drinks, Caroline? And don't say the wrong thing," she taunted. Another empty bottle of vodka was already in her hands.
Caroline's eyes brimmed with tears as she tried to pinch herself awake from this nightmare. "I don't know where they are." The bottle crashed over her head again, this time narrowly missing her head. "I don't know where it is!" Caroline screamed at the top of her lungs.
"Stop lying and give me my fucking vodka!" Katherine yelled.
Caroline sat up, her glare intensifying on her sister as she moved closer to her. "I don't have it. You probably fucking drank it all."
"What did you just say me?"
"You heard me."
"I'm gonna give you five seconds to start running," Katherine stated. Caroline only glared back, making her older sister slightly flinch. "One..."
"You don't have the magic of our ancestors anymore, Katherine. They have rejected you. Who do you think will win this fight if you keep counting."
Katherine stopped counting, instead she took the final empty bottle of some old expensive bourbon in her hand. She stared into her younger sisters eyes, no longer seeing the person she said was her best friend.
Now she was the only person that stood between her and her sweet relief.
"Two..." she continued. When Caroline made no sign of moving back, Katherine broke the bottom half of the bottle. Now with the jagged ends of the bottle pointed at her sister, she took her own step forward.
