In Charge

Tech knocked Rev to the ground as their call with Lexi, Ace, Duck, and Slam ended.

Tech loved his boyfriend, but Rev could get annoying.

Plus, Tech wanted to be in charge of the base.

But as it turns out, Rev wanted to be in charge of something completely different.

"Finally!" Rev cried as he zoomed out from underneath Tech and jumped on him from behind.

"Wh-what are you doing?" Tech cried as the Roadrunner wrapped his arms tight around the Coyote.

"You can be in charge of the base." Rev said as he speeded Tech into a chair. "But I'm in charge of you."

Despite himself, Tech gulped.

Rev pulled a slip of paper off a table, smacked it as if cleaning off dust, and wagged it in his face.

Tech squinted as he read the words written in his hand writing.

I, Tech of the Loonatics, of sound mind and body, do humbly agree to test out 1 invention of Rev's within reason as long as it does not strip me of free will. I don't see Rev building anything that strips someone of its will, but I want this to be fool-proof.

"If I owe you a favor, I'm already sunk." Tech sighed as he leaned on one arm.

Rev tsked. "I'm your boyfriend. You shouldn't have to owe me favors. You should just do things for me."

"Like being your lab rat?"

Rav gripped the Coyotes face on either side.

"This invention is for your own good."

Tech sat back as Rev got the invention ready. He still couldn't believe he had made that deal. But when your boyfriend does all that begging and pleading, you cave.

"You're always so stressed and uptight Tech. You never relax until every little thing is set perfectly." Rev started.

Tech wanted to argue, he really did, but couldn't. He never could relax unless he had everything under control.

"Variables of life are...hard. I think I can keep people safe by taking care of those variables." Tech tried to explain.

"But you can't." Rev said. "And it hurts seeing you like that Tech, always on guard, never feeling safe, even with us...So I made this!"

Rev zipped forward, presenting the small metal band, which would fit around the neck of an average Atremapolin.

"A...collar." Tech bit back a remark against Rev's father.

Rev winced. "The neck was the best place to wear it to achieve full...success."

Tech didn't like the whole collar idea and what it entailed--muzzles, feral, coyote stereotypes--but he had promised.

"I...I didn't think about what the design entailed. I'm so sorry Tech." Rev reached to put it away. "Maybe we can..."

"No!" Tech jumped up, taking his boyfriend's wrist. "No, let's do it."

"I don't know Tech. A-collar-represents-a-lot-of-ideas-with-negative-conotations-which-I-should've-considered-when-designing-it-and-I-am-sososososososo--"

Tech grabbed his beck, grabbed the collar from his hand, and clicked it on.

Of course, he realized he had never asked Rev what exactly it was supposed to do. Calm him down or whatever, but he didn't know how it was supposed to do that.

Electro-shocks, injections, soundwave-vibrations.

Suddenly, everything felt very heavy. But not in a painful way. In the blissful way you felt right before sleep.

The Coyote slowly lowered himself to the floor, and Rev caught him.

"I made it specifically for you Tech." Rev explained as Tech nuzzled his neck. "Its supposed to correspond with your magnetic abilities and cause small reaction that cause a calm drowsiness. It relaxes you. The second you take it off, it wares off."

Tech couldn't tell if Rev was actually talking slow or if it was just the invention's effects. Probably the second.

All he knew was he felt safe, he felt comfortable, and that he was in Rev's arms.

He mumbled something into his feathers.

"What was that?" Rev asked gently as he started to rock his boyfriend back and forth.

"You can be in charge."
