Rachel's P.O.V~
I attempted to quiet my thundering heart. I physically felt as it attempted to jump out of my chest. I stared at the image in the mirror, questioning my luck.
It just had to be me who would manage to have looked in that direction at that one moment in time.
The dark figure remained crouched within the corner of the closet. The only thing possibly visible was the edge of a what looked like a red and neon green bracelet.
That's a weird combination of colours
It appeared to be that whoever was in the room was aware that I had entered, but maybe not that I had spotted them.
I think I prefer to keep it that way.
Which means there's only one solution to this.
Placing one foot after the other, never having questioned the nature of how I walked in such excruciating detail until this point, I attempted to 'calmly' exit the room. My sneakers sunk into the polyester carpet. The couple steps from the door felt like much more than that as time seemingly slowed within that juncture.
When my hand finally did come into contact with the door knob I threw it open and bolted out the room. Once I was halfway down the empty hallway I swear I could've heard the sound of rushed movements behind me.
The elevator doors opened before I arrived and for all intents and purposes I slid inside of there and spammed the button for the ground floor. After about four pushes the door finally started to close in the painfully slow manner that elevator doors usually did.
I exhaled once it was definitely sealed.
"BANG"Something hit the outer compartment behind the doors seconds later. I shrunk towards the back wall as I then felt the conveyor begin to make its descent. The movement mixed with the things that had transpired honestly made me feel oozy. The closed space not making things better.
The doors reopened to the lobby. I pushed out into the area which was healthily crowded, the complete opposite of the floor upstairs. "I'm sorry," I mumbled after I stumbled into somebody by mistake. Too afraid and shaken up to bother I just rushed towards our car.
I sat down inside shutting and locking the door behind me. I froze with a blank gaze pointed towards the seat in front of me as I felt my chest tighten. "I was wondering what was taking you so long-" I started to hyperventilate.
"Woah- What the freak-" His eyes widened.
The car pulled off and in response Cory lowered the windows.
"Hey, hey-" he turned my face towards him before pointing me towards the window. My eyes were watering as I attempted to catch my breath.A couple minutes later in which Cory just sat shocked and unsettled, my breathing rate had finally relaxed.
"Bro, what happened??"I couldn't stop my stuttering as I explained. "I- I went to get my phone. But then I thought I s- saw something in the reflection. And I didn't know what it was but then," I rubbed my eyes.
He pulled me towards his frame, enveloping me in his arms like a lost child."Then what happened?" he asked cautiously. His brows were furrowed in worry.
"There was this figure just- crouching in the corner of the closet-""Aw heckks naw!" he exclaimed in disbelief.
"Hecks yes.
I just- I just bolted. Every ounce of my body was telling me to get out of there.""Should we call the police? It's probably not even 911- probably some other number, I- we could ask the driver-" he continued this incohesive ramble until I interrupted him. "No, we're not staying there any longer anyway- I don't wanna make a whole deal out of it."
