Todoroki's P.O.V.
"Zero, why do you always say you like me? We aren't soulmates."
"Because you're you Todoronie. Do I need a reason to like you?"
"Yeah I mean, in the world we live in, it's almost impossible to like someone other than your soulmate. And we both have soulmates."
"So what you're saying is that you don't like me?"
"No. That's not what I meant it's just-"
"So you do like me?"
"What? I didn't say that either. Where did you get that from?"
"Your face says it all. It's as red as a tomato Todoronie."
"Shut up Zero! No one asked! Besides, I have two soulmates and neither one is you. So I can't fall in love with you."
"Are you sure about that?"
"Positive."
"Okay. Might want to watch your back. Next thing you know and I'll have swept you off your feet."
"Todoroki."
"Todoroki."
"TODOROKI!!"
I snapped out of my thoughts and noticed Midoriya was standing in front of me with his hands on his hips.
"Did you hear what I said?" Midoriya asked.
"Uh no. Sorry, I got caught in a daydream," I explained.
I don't know why I had a sudden glimpse of that. Was that an old memory? That's right, I ran out of my pills last week. But wait, the pills only keep away the bad memories. That wasn't really a bad one. Either way I need to get them refilled.
"You're pitiful you know that?" Midoriya stated.
"What? Why?" I asked.
"Because I repeated what I said again and you still spaced out," he said.
"Oh...sorry," I replied.
"It's okay. Is there something bothering you lately? You seem more tired and stressed," he pointed out.
"No it's nothing. I just haven't been getting enough sleep," I said.
'Why is that?" he asked.
"I don't know. Maybe I'm stressed or something. Or it's one of the impossible exams that Aizawa Sensei has planned for this week," I said.
"What! You! Worried about an exam! What world am I living in?! Shoto Todoroki worried about an exam? Mr. Know-it-All?" Midoriya exclaimed.
"Be quiet. Everyone gets anxious at least once in life," I said.
"Oh but not Mr. Perfect. He never gets anxious. He's top of the class and makes a burned eye look good. And I mean burned burned. Like boiled to a crisp," Midoriya said.
"Okay I get it. But I'm still not perfect. I'm a human just like you, and right now I am anxious and probably stressed," I said.
He gave a light smirk at me then looked at the book I was reading. After a few seconds of scanning it, he slammed it shut.
"Hey what was that-"
"Stop over working yourself. Let's go get some fresh air for a moment. You're gonna have grey hairs before we even graduate high school," Midoriya said.
"Your one to talk. Your whole head was grey at one point. All of it except the ends," I responded.
"Hmmm, and I wonder why I had them," Midoriya said.
I stayed silent and he just laughed at me.
"Now, give me your hand," Midoriya said.
Give me your hand. Give me your hand.
"Exactly. Might want to watch your back. Next thing you know and I'll have swept you off your feet."
"Okay, we'll see."
"Now Todoronie, give me your hand."
"Why?"
"Because. Now give it to me."
"Fine."
"The left hand? Why not the right one?"
Because left means forever. Just like when two people are getting married, the ring goes on the left hand."
"Oh okay. In that case, I'll use my left hand too."
"Ouch! Why did you cut my hand?! And why so deeply?!"
"So it lasts longer! Look I did mines too!"
"What was the point though?"
"Now we make a promise over it, and as long as each of us has this cut, we can't break that promise."
"Okay then. Promise me......."
"TODOROKI!!!" Midoriya yelled. "That's the second time you spaced out. Are you sure you're okay?"
"Yeah I'm fine," I replied.
"Todo listen. I'm always here when you need to talk. I don't judge you, so if you need to let something out of your chest please do," Midoriya said.
Not going to lie, I thought about spilling the beans for a minute then decided not to. It would be wrong to bring up a past memory of Zero to Midoriya's face.
"Thanks for your support, but I'm fine," I insisted.
"Okay then. Soooo....are you going to take my hand?" Midoriya asked.
"Oh yeah," I mumbled.
I grabbed his hand with my right hand and he led the way out of the building. As we were walking, I lifted up my left hand to look at it and got frustrated when I saw there was still a cut wound on it. Thing was, I still can't remember the promise. I always wondered what this wound was from. I just remember looking at it one day and thinking to myself, "That's a deep ass paper cut. Where did it come from?" I also feel like I'm not supposed to be remembering it since my pills blocked it out. But it just doesn't seem like a bad memory.
"We're here," he said.
Already? I looked around and noticed we were pretty far from the building. Not to far though. We were in a spot where there was nothing but trees and bushes were surrounding us. But in the mix of those trees and bushes, there was a spot with nothing in it except for grass. And that's where we decided to sit.
"See, isn't this refreshing?" Midoriya asked.
"Yeah," I replied.
I took a while to take in the freshness of the air.
"This will be our secret place, okay? Promise me that no one will find out about it," he said.
I just nodded my head and smiled. Promises, huh? It's been a long time since I made one of those. A real one at least. And it's messed up how I can't even remember it.
Actually, you know what I'm going to do? I'm going to ask Zero about it head on and see if he remembers.
