Todoroki's POV
Zero and I continued to be friends and after the incident in fifth grade. I never told my dad that I didn't have a friend that was a girl, nor did he ever ask so the topic was never brought up. Continuing on, there was moments where my dad started bringing me back to his job again, but he wouldn't let me see Zero. Instead, he would train me to take over his agency one day to keep me busy. But it was okay because I always saw Zero in school. Sometimes, not very often, Zero would come over to my house so he could help me with homework, but it was never too often, or my dad would get mad at me.
5 Years Earlier
"We should go somewhere after school before you have to go home," Zero suggested.
"Okay where?" I asked.
"There's this little hill with a really pretty very of the clouds and everything and it's not far from your house too!" he said excited.
"Okay sounds good," I replied.
After school we went to the hill that Zero mentioned, and like he said the view of the clouds was very pretty. We sat down at the very top of the hill and started talking about random things then he stood up.
"I like you," he said.
I looked at him and smiled while shaking my head.
"You always say that," I stated.
"Because I mean it."
He looked pretty serious as he was talking just now. I stood up as well to face him directly.
"Zero, why do you always say you like me? We aren't soulmates."
"Because you're you Todoronie. Do I need a reason to like you?" he asked.
"Yeah I mean, in this world we live in, it's almost impossible to like someone other than your soulmate, and we both have soulmates," I said.
"So what you're saying is that you don't like me?"
"No. That's not what I meant it's just-"
"So you do like me?" he asked.
I could feel my face heating up as he said that.
"What? I didn't say that either. Where did you get that from?" I managed to stutter out.
"Your face says it all. It's as red as a tomato Todoronie," he laughed out.
"Shut up Zero! No one asked! Besides, I have two soulmates and neither one is you. So I can't fall in love with you."
"Are you sure about that?" he questioned.
"Positive," I responded.
"Okay. Might want to watch your back. Next thing you know I'll have you swept off your feet," he said confidently.
"Okay, we'll see."
"Now Todoronie, give me your hand," he demanded.
"Why?" I asked.
"Because. Now give it to me."
"Fine."
I stuck out my left hand for him to grab.
"The left hand? Why not the right one?" he asked.
"Because left means forever. Just like when two people are getting married, the ring goes on the left hand."
"Oh okay. In that case, I'll use my left hand too."
He pulled a pocket knife out of his hoodie and quickly cut my hand very deeply before I could react.
"Ouch! Why did you cut my hand?! And why so deeply?!" I cried out.
"So it lasts longer! Look I did mines too!" he said excitedly as he quickly slid the knife across his hand.
"What was the point though?" I asked still confused and upset.
He grabbed my hand and intertwined our fingers. Then he looked at me and smiled brightly.
"Now we make a promise over it, and as long as each of us has this cut we can't break that promise," Zero explained to me.
A look of realization crossed my face.
"Okay then. Promise me that no matter what you'll never leave me," I said.
Zero's smiled disappeared and he looked at me seriously. He then let go of my hand and wrapped his arms around my neck tightly which caught me off guard.
"I'll never leave you Todoroki," he said quietly.
I sat there quietly for a minute trying to take in what he said. It made me feel sad but a happy sad, an emotion I don't think I felt before. I realized that I started crying in that moment and I also realized that he actually said my name. I wrapped my arms around his back and stuck in my head in his neck
"I know you won't," I responded.
A year or so later that promise was broken by him.
