Daryl ended up in the reformatory and so Bernadette and Laura's relationship at the Cavendish family's residence improved a lot, they even made a true reform in all the maids and employees of the mansion so that they would have someone trustworthy there and even got a couple of employees that would be practically their right hand. Sunday March 10, 1991, Brazil

Brazilian GP 1991, the first race of the season, Laura got easily the pole position, she would start in the front and there was a huge euphoria in the event, she surprised by the great starting position, even more that she was ahead of Alanna Russeau and Lucy Watson the duo from Scuderia Carlucci that was almost invincible, the second one was the champion in 1990 and 1989, she was until then the fastest racer in the category. It would be 100 laps of pure adrenaline for the Irishwoman who would have to prepare for her first race in the World Broom Racing Championship. Only a few people knew about how Laura was really an extremely fast runner, and on that day the weather decided to close in, it was 26 degrees Celsius and the sky was overcast, so much so that LEAF bet on rain wings for the course. With beautiful black brooms and golden lines with the Special Herald Player painting (which is a reference to the John Player Special painting) which drew a lot of attention for the extreme beauty of the brooms.

Well here we are, it's my first race of the year, I will not waste this chance and show that I am amazing, I ride my broom, I kiss my Bernadette and with all the concentration of the world I go to the track where I start to leave the broom parked in position, waiting for the whole team to come and give me some last adjustments, there was still 30 minutes to the start of the race, I look around and the crowd was cheering for Lucy Watson or Alanna Russeau and also for the local runner Vivian Vasconcelos, But she is way behind at the moment, she will have to do a beautiful race if she wants a great position and surprise the crowd, I also noticed some Irish flags, so I knew I had some supporters on my side, they were few and isolated, until after the slow lap I stop the broom and get out of it where I just wait for the team to leave the last details on it, I knew I would need to leave it in the right order to win today's race.

The time soon goes by, the race starts being commented by Lorraine Windsor that soon announces the start of the racers in the middle of all that rain, who started in the front was Laura that in the first curve managed to take the lead of the race, continuing in high speed through the course, she was taking each curve with extreme precision in each one of the 100 laps, having only one change of wings in the middle of the race and even so she managed to keep ahead of Lucy Watson the whole race, what was shocking everyone, how a rookie was running so fast? Laura McLaren was a monster on her broomstick, she was the fastest even in the rain, finishing the race with a win, her first career win and first of the season, a feat that was extremely rare for a rookie racer to accomplish in her first race. Her McLaren teammate with the same broom was far behind, Lia Nielsen of Sweden, who finished in eighth position during that same race, being out of the scoring zone, since in that season only the top six drivers got points.
