Rain tapping against the windows, a gentle light casting down the bedroom walls. A cute boy straddled upon his lap. The words have been said.

"I'll be the one to protect you."

Taehyung hadn't been aware that he needed protection. And most certainly not from the most innocent, baby-faced guy he'd ever laid eyes on. But perhaps it was his tone of voice, or the way he looked at him with those dazzling eyes. Those eyes he swore held worlds in them. Or how adorable the boy looked saying such words with such a serious face. Either way, in that moment, Taehyung believed him. That maybe he was safe after all. As long as Jeongguk was beside him, danger couldn't ever dare reach him.

Yet, things got even better when Taehyung watched the younger boy's face flush a profound crimson color, teeth digging to his lip as he was seemingly embarrassed at what he had just promised, the strong grip of his hands on Taehyung's shoulders slowly faltering. It took everything in him not to coo softly at the boy, as one would watching a tiny baby who had fallen attempting their first steps.

"Fuck..." his raspy voice uttered, "You're adorable, bun." Taehyung lifted a hand and placed it gently at Jeongguk's right cheek, the younger gasping at the warmth his large palm provided him. With every light rub of his thumb on his skin, the young boy could feel his heartbeat accelerating. "You don't need to protect me, Jeon."

The man's gaze was surprisingly soft, and Jeongguk's lips parted. He felt out of breath; as though he'd just run a marathon he didn't remember enrolling in. Taehyung's lenient features made him want to combust right then and there. If he felt hot with bashfulness before, he didn't dare imagine how red he must've looked now.

"Yes, I-I do..." the younger's voice came quietly, big eyes looking back at the man in front of him. "Because if... If I don't, then who will?"

Taehyung opened his mouth to speak, but the other boy's words had rendered him speechless.

"Look who's here looking after you right now, Taehyung..." Jeongguk continued, a tender smile curving at his lips. "I'm sure you-... You've been trying to protect people for so long. But, who's gonna protect the one protecting everyone all the time? See, now?" His smile widened. "That's where I come in." He reached to place his hand over Taehyung's on his cheek. "I'll protect you. I promise."

Tap, tap, tap. The sound of rain against the bedroom windows persisted in consistent drops.

Badum, badum, badum. Taehyung's heart was convulsing violently.

It was the most strange feeling he'd had in a long time. Suddenly the boy's eyes held so much promise, Taehyung couldn't help but give in to him. Maybe it was possible, maybe such a thing existed. Rather than pushing away, it might prove healthy to pull someone in. Maybe Jeongguk could be someone.
