"I wanted to ask you some things."

There was a buzzing in the tiny room. Probably from the old lamp blinking on the wall, struggling to remain lit up in its corner. Despite not providing much lighting, it gave a warm hue to the room, seeped it in an orange radiance, as though beside a fireplace. A feat in which Seokjin believed helped keep patients calm.

Though Taehyung, or rather V, wasn't sure if he felt calm.

And yet as usual, it didn't show on his face, his expression remained rested as though he were playing a game of poker, constantly blank to ensure his enemies could never read him. Couldn't decipher his gaze, his thoughts. Couldn't anticipate his next movements.

V wasn't sure when it was he'd started viewing life as a battle, but it felt as though it had been this way all his life.

Getting up in the morning, what he'd eat for breakfast, casual conversations with schoolmates or supposed 'friends' or 'lovers' or anything in between. Walking down the street and meeting a friendly stranger, perhaps a foreigner who'd ask for directions. Finding a coffee shop and a good book and sitting down to detach from the outside world and slip into a story.

Others would call these everyday things normal. Relaxing, even.

And yet, he couldn't understand that.

What could possibly be relaxing about waking up in the morning, skipping breakfast, faking conversations with schoolmates or supposed 'friends' or 'lovers' or anything in between? What joy was there in meeting a stranger, a foreigner asking for directions—lest they were merely prying into his life, trying to get to know him in a grander scheme of gathering intel over him?

And there was no point in slipping into a good book at a public location, where an enemy could be watching, could catch him at his weakest point when he'd be unfocused, oblivious to the world around him.

Because in a way, yes. He felt he was fighting for his life each day.

Although others could deem such a mindset as dramatic or unnecessary, someone had to do it. He had to view things in this way, because if he didn't, then Taehyung and the others couldn't lead 'normal' lives.

That's right. Taehyung should be focused on school, making friends, being normal.

And he'll focus on the scary things.

Scary things like, others finding out about their disorder. People not understanding them, just because they were different. Different things are scary, therefore people stay away from different things. From them.

And when they do they become mean, and it makes Taehyung upset. Upset that no one even tries to understand.

He'll protect them from those things. He will.
