I woke up to a screaming Kale. I untangled myself from the sheets and Harry's arms skillfully not waking him up and walked to my son's room. I picked him up but he kept screaming.
"Did you have a bad dream, baby? Don't worry, mommy's here. Mommy won't let them get you," I said as I walked downstairs to see Louis making a bottle. "Did he wake you? I'm sorry, Louis," I said. I cradled Kale in my arms and bounced him slightly.
He shook his head, "Don't be silly, Lyric. I put another baby monitor in my room so I could hear him," he said.
"Why?" I asked as he gave me the bottle. I was confused, why would he do that? I gave the bottle to Kale and he instantly started drinking it.
"I love him, Lyric. He's like the nephew I don't have. Promise you won't take him away?" he asked looking me in the eyes.
I couldn't say no to those eyes so I didn't. I nodded and said, "I promise, Louis. No matter what happens, I won't take him away from you."
He hugged me, "Thank you," he said. He seemed as though a huge weight had been lifted off his shoulders.
"Were you really that afraid about losing him?" I asked.
He grinned sheepishly and nodded, "Yeah, I was."
I hugged him, "I love you, Louis. You're my best friend."
"I love you, too, Lyric. You're my best friend, too."
There was a thud and I looked down at Kale to see he'd gone back to sleep. The thud was his bottle hitting the ground. "Okay, Lou, I'm going to take him back upstairs," I told him.
"I'll walk you to his room," he said and we walked up the stairs. We bid each other good night and I walked into Kale's room as he walked into his own.
I laid Kale down and walked out of his room and into Harry's. I rested my head against the wall. I was so tired, I just wanted to sleep. I slumped against the wall in the corner and fell asleep there.
