They stood before the gate. It was grand, tall, polished stone with little indents and details. A wall surrounded the City, and inside were towers, turrets, houses and taverns. A few inns were scattered about the place, and a colossal, mint green tree stood in the center of it all, with little glowing particles moving around it. Mitsuki's eyes widened.
"Woah, what is that?" she asked, leaving her jaw ajar.
"It's the Evergreen, the big tree that holds the magic only the most worthy can wield. It keeps us intact. Without it, anyone within a 100 meter radius of the City splits slowly..... into little shards....." Toruko shuddered, " Oh well, I guess we're lucky! Haha...ha......"The huge stone staircase lay in front of them. It split in half, where it turned around a huge, brilliant cascade of water. They took a step forward, about to climb the stairs, when he stuck out his hand again.
"Ah, ah, ah!" he lead them to a rope with a huge boulder. A little wooden circle stood on the other side in the air suspended. He glared at the rock, and his eyes lit up a green sort of colour like the Evergreen, as if there was some sort of connection. Slowly, the boulder started to shake, then it lifted up. The small circular platform came down, and when they got on, Toruko was careful not to let them fling into the air.
"Woah!" Rumi chuckled. They all burst into laughter as the walked on the high platforms. For some reason, Toruko tried to suppress his laughter, but couldn't help himself. A shocked look crossed his face as he opened his mouth, letting two giant insect mouthparts slide out from behind his teeth. For a moment, Mitsuki took a glimpse of them, and they were a dark green, with an egde covered in a spiky, zig-zag pattern. Two smaller little brown, blunt parts sat underneath. He immediately closed his mouth, the spikes retracting back behind his gums. Toruko's face had gone ghostly white, and he ran away
behind one of the trees. He cried with his head in his arms, muttering about something to himself.
"I'm so sorry, brother. Brother... waah! Lurin, I wish you were here..."Mitsuki and Rumi thought it best to leave him be, and they came back down the steps around the waterfall, down to the long, crowded alleys of little, scattered markets. They came across a weapon shop, which seemed like a useful thing to have around, so they walked over. A tall, young man with orange-red hair and pale skin stood behind the counter. He had long, leather boots, and baggy pantaloons with little buttons on top.
A sort of overly detaled poncho sat on top of a poofy sleeved shirt.
"Hello, what would you like to buy from our weapons market?" He said in deep, soothing voice, his red hair falling in shards onto his red eyes.
"Eer.. hello! We would like to buy eerrmm...-ah- err.. (what would we like to buy)?" Mitsuki stuttered."Aaaaah- a-a- that spear over there, please!" said Rumi.
"And that dagger!" Mitsuki added.
He took the dagger from the wall, and
The spear leaning on the wall and flung them slightly onto the counter. He looked up though, behind them as if someboday was signalling him from behind. A lock of hair slid down his face again as he tried not to notice what was behind.
"Is something wrong?" They asked him.
"No,"
The two girls looked behind them, just in time not to notice...Toruko slipped back behind the tree.
