Floorboards creaked. Shadows shifted. Then, a dry cough echoed throughout the room.
"I'm dreaming. I'm dreaming. I'm dreaming-"
"Lurin, It's me, Mitsuki," she repeated, confused.
"-I'm dreaming Im... dreaming?"
He jumped at the tiny window, and struggled, rushing to slide the thin curtain away. Layers of dim, cool light inflitrated the room, and then he looked down at her through tears.
"What's wrong? I- I mean I know what's wrong, but I-" His arms shook her thoroughly by her shoulders. "Mitsuki!" He cried, " Please help, he hasn't woken up in ages!"
"Are you talking about Toruko?" asked
Mitsuki.
"Yeah, look at this!" He grabbed Toruko just like he grabbed her, and shook him twice as hard." Wake up!"
Nothing happened. "I think he's dead! I listened to his heartbeat earlier and... and I didn't hear anything..." Lurin sobbed.
"Hey, It's okay, I'm sure he's alive, he's probably just under a spell," said Mitsuki, but she couldn't help her pupils narrowing in supressed terror.
"Come on!" Shouted Lurin, leaning over his brother and panicking.
"Have you heard anything from P- I mean the Captain?"
"Oh, trust me, you have no idea what he said he's gonna do to us," panted Lurin around the room.
"Who is 'us'?" asked Mitsuki.
"You, me, Toruko and this guy called Tatsuo," he replied.
"Tatsuo..."
"You know him?"
"Well, I- you see uuhh... the name sounded familiar, and I thought-"
Then a broken, spluttered coughing filled the room. Lurin immediately ran over.
"Toruko!?" He gasped. Toruko was sitting up, uncontrollably coughing out orange goop. Lurin patted him on the back helplessly, and asked him if he was alright. Through tears and slime, he answered, " I'm fine!" and kept on coughing. Soon he stopped and gasped for air, wiping his drippy mouth. "Where am I? Did something happen?"
"It's a long story," said Mitsuki, breaking in to what Lurin was going to say.
"Well, yeah listen to her, because neither do I have any idea what happened, It's all a blur," said Lurin. He sighed in relief and ruffled his brother's hair like he always did.
"Piggybacks!" He shouted.
"You're too big for that, you old monkey," chuckled Lurin, but he still picked him up and walked around the room, making dumb faces at Mitsuki.
His little brother was safe, and that's all he wanted to hear.
"One opportunity of keeping us entertained in this stuffy room!" Said Mitsuki, to which Toruko cheered at.
"No, seriously, we have to do something while we're in here, because, oh trust me on this when I say what a wretched time you're going to have here."
"Sshh! What if he hears you? Ooohh!" Laughed Toruko, playing with his small hands on the floor. And so they carried on playing games like I spy, rock paper scissors and telling epic tales of knights and dragons to pass the time for a few hours. Then they started to get hungry.
"Ha! I told you I always win!" Boasted Toruko after beating Mitsuki with a rock.
"I'll getcha next time!" Said Mitsuki, comically imitating the voice of a villain.
"Guys, aren't you hungry yet? I could do with a bit of food," asked Lurin.
"Well, what am I supposed to say, Ooh Mr. Captain we're hungry!" Laughed Mitsuki. Creak! The door slightly opened. Then it stopped. They all shrunk back in fear. A shadow blocked the strip of light, and a foot stepped in. They gulped.
