Rumi opened the barn door. Outside was warm and pleasant, and the clouds had almost disappeared.
".....RAAAWWR!!" came a voice from behind her. She turned and saw Toruko holding a piece of toast cheekily trying to scare her with his teeth.
"Those don't scare me!" Rumi wriggled her elf ears. "Have you seen Mitsuki?"
"Nah, she's probably asleep. Let's go check!" he said. They went up the creaky stairs, Toruko dropping bread crumbs everywhere.
"Mitsuki! C'mon! Wake up!" Toruko flung himself onto the bed with all his weight, landing with a thud when he realised it was flat.
"She's not here!" he said, scratching his fluffy hair with a crummy hand.
Rumi froze. She remembered her parents telling her about a world that appears every four years, and sometimes people get swallowed into the underworld randomly. The only way to connect was through telepathy, which was obtained only through really, really hard concentration.
"What is it?" Toruko asked, a curl of hair falling onto his innocent blue eyes.
"Oh, nothing. I just- I have something to do." She leaned over to the little nightstand where Mitsuki kept her spellbook. Heavy steps came after a creak downstairs.
"Lurin's here!" Said Toruko, as he jumped happily down the stairs to his brother.
"Hello," he said calmly, handing over the rabbit he caught to Toruko. "What's all the jumping about?" He chuckled, looking far down at his excitable little brother.
"Mitsuki's gone missing and I'm gonna find her!" Said he, jumping and running around the kitchen.

In the meanwhile, Rumi leaned over the spellbook, trying to figure out how to do telepathy. But she will realise how wrong she was...
