New Girl

Chapter 10

I wake up slowly and I sit up in my bed. I glance at my alarm clock and it reads 7:00. I suddenly remember that I was supposed to be thinking of a name for my family's new dog. Oops. I ponder about it as I slip on a cute pink shirt from a concert I went to last summer. The band's name was "Skyline". I put on a pair of dark skinny jeans. I put on my favorite pair of pink converse and I go out into the hallway, making my way into the kitchen. As I step foot in the kitchen, I hear the TV from the living room. It was playing a candy ad. At this point, Olivia and Paige were cheering like they never had before. "It's our favorite candy!" Paige yells. Her r's sound like W's, so it really sounded like " It's ow favowit candy!" I grab a white cereal bowl from the rustic white cabinets in our kitchen and step out of the kitchen for a second to look at the TV screen. It was a starburst commercial. It showed a little girl with honey blonde hair eating a pink starburst and playing outside. It was so cheesy so I rolled my eyes and went back into the kitchen. Then and there, I thought of the perfect name.
"Starburst!" I yell. My Mom walks into the kitchen.
"What was that sweetie?" She asks curiously.
"I thought of the perfect name for our puppy!" I say with a smile that goes from ear to ear. My Mom's face lights up. It seems like she has been waiting for this moment to come.
"Really? What is it?" She asks as she prepares some toast.
"Starburst!" I say exuberantly. My mom looks up from the toaster and winks at me.
"Sounds perfect! Dad will pick Starburst up on the way home from work." My mom says as she smiles and looks back down at the toaster. I get my cereal ready and I eat it quickly so I don't miss the bus. I grab my backpack and scram out the door.
"Bye!" I yell as I close the door behind me. I jog around the block to see Hunter standing there.
"Well, Look who it is!" Hunter says with a smile. I chuckle and hug him.
"Hey, how come Nicole and her snobby friends don't come to the bus stop anymore?" I ask. Hinter shrugs.
"I don't know. I think one of Nicole's parents offered to drive them all to school." Hunter says as his deep blue eyes stare into mine, as if he is staring into my soul.
"Oh." I say as I laugh a little bit. "Guess what?" I say.
"What?" Hunter asks me.
"My family is getting a puppy and it's name is going to be Starburst!" I say exuberantly. Hunter's eyebrows raise up and he smirks.
"Wow, really? Another member of the Brenneth household? Cool!" He says. Suddenly, the bus pulls up, it's engine making an unpleasant noise.
As we arrive to school, I spot Nicole and her friends standing right by the entrance. I put my head down and walk past them, hoping that they won't recognize me. As I lift my head up, I bump into someone. My backpack that I was carrying by one strap falls off. I recognize him. I think he is in my grade. He has short, dark brown hair swept to the side with some gel. He has hazel eyes that captivate me, and I don't know why.
"Sorry, my bad." He says shyly as he picks up my bag.
"Oh it's ok, haha." I say, as I grab my bag away from him.
"Were you trying to avoid Nicole and her crew?" He asks as he points to them.
"Yeah. How'd you know?"
"I saw the look on your face." He says.
"What's your name?" I ask with a smile.
"Isaac. You?" He says, smiling back.
"Emily." I say as I look behind me, looking for Hunter.
"Aren't you dating the quarterback? Hunter?" Isaac asks.
"Yeah." I giggle. "Again, How'd you know?"
"Everyone knows it. When a girl dates Hunter, everyone tends to know about her. You're pretty popular!" Isaac says as he smiles at me.
"Oh, I did not know that!" As we both laugh.
"Hey, you like Skyline?" Isaac says as he points at my shirt.
"Yeah, they're my favorite band!" I say.
"I love them too!" Isaac exclaims. Then we talk about Skyline until the homeroom bell rings.
"Bye Isaac!" I wave as I walk into homeroom.
"Bye Em!" He yells, hoping I'll hear him. Did he just call me Em? I blush as I rush into homeroom.
"Where were you?" I ask Hunter as I sit down next to him.
"I was talking with Nicole." Hunter says, not even looking at me.
"Oh. About what?" I ask, with a confused look on my face.
"Haha nothing..." Hunter says, laughing. I try to think about what Hunter could have possibly been talking about with Nicole, and I can't think of anything. I keep thinking as we sit there in silence.
