Akil

I thought once, twice, thrice, you count it. I'm sitting in a hotel room away from home because I can't face the fucking fact that I'm married to a girl that I don't even like. Maybe hate. It's been what... three or four days since I left.

Suddenly my phone started ringing. It was my mom.

"What do you want?"

"I just wanted to ask how Vasu and you are doing."

"Great."

"That's not an answer, I want to talk to Vasu, give her the phone."

I quickly tried to think of a lie.

"She's sleeping."

"At four o'clock?"

"She's tried."

"Well okay then, let me know when she's up."

"Sure whatever, bye."

I hung up. I was screwed. If I didn't let my mom talk to her later today she was going to come home and kill me. I gathered my things and vacated my room. If Akash left at seven and L'shana at 8 I may have time to make it inside successfully without too many questions. I checked the time at 11:48.

I slowly opened the front door and quietly walked into the living room. But I saw a light in the kitchen. I took my chances and walked into the kitchen. To my surprise it was Vasu. Eating... ice cream?

"Hey?" she said in a doubtful tone.

"Why are you eating damn ice cream at this hour?" I asked. She gave me a weird smile. I walked over to the fridge and couldn't help noticing how many ice cream tubs were stuffed. "Why-"

"Don't ask okay."

I followed her into the dinning room and we both took a seat at the table.

"So how was your... trip?" she asked.

"Why are you asking me that?"

"Fine then don't answer, jerk,'' she replied, eating ice cream.

"It was good."

We sat in awkward silence for a few minutes.

"I'm sorry..." I trailed.

"Are you seriously apologizing to me? What for?"

"I'm sorry for just leaving you to be, I wasn't actually on a business trip or anything." I admitted.

"I appreciate your apology, what do you need from me?"

I let out a nervous laugh. She knew that I needed something from her. Great way to keep embarrassing myself in front of her.

"Can you talk to my mom?"

"Why?"

"She just wants to talk, that's all." Then I paused. "And please don't tell her I was away."

"Sure but that'll owe you something." she smirked
"Owe what?"

"Ice cream."

"Fine."

She clapped her hands in satisfaction of winning. I dialed my mom and gave it to her. Vasu is a great liar. My mom didn't even suspect anything.
