Paula's POV
We arrived at a duplex about 10 kilometers from the mansion. Clint hurriedly got out of the car, picked up all the thing from the backseat and went for the first door. I followed him as I winced at the pain of my wound.
"Sit down, I'll get you some water," Clint said the moment we got inside. He went to the kitchen and got back with a glass of water.
"I want to help Clint. I want to help find them," I told him sternly as I reached for the glass.
"No," he replied immediately, "you stay here. My people are locating them now and once I know where, I'll be coming with remaining men we have. I can't have you endanger yourself."
"Fuck you!" I shouted at him. He just stared at me, surprised at my anger.
"Fuck you! I'll help and I'll go with you! If you won't, I'll find them on my own!" I cried angrily at him. My tears fell as I lashed out on him.
"Paula, I need you safe and alive when I get them back. I'll get them, I promise."
"Fuck safety! Fuck being alive!" I shouted back. "I want them back! I need them back! And I'm not gonna fucking wait here!"
"But they ordered me to keep you—,"
"Shut the fuck up!" I snatch the gun on my waist and pointed it at him. I was crying audibly as my good hand shook as I held the gun at him.
"Paula—,"
"I said shut the fuck up!" I brought the gun closer until its mouth was at his shoulder. He listened this time.
"I am going with you, I am coming for them. I want to fucking pull this trigger on their fucking enemy's head! I want to do it for them! I'm not sitting here! I can't lose them! I can't do nothing!" I cried and cried until I can't feel my body anymore.
"Okay, just—just put the gun down please," he whispered. "Okay." He slowly took the gun from me and held me as I sobbed. I screamed against his shoulder and he just held me.
"We'll find them together," he mumbled against my ear and I just nodded.
I can't lose them.
I can't.
Not now.
Not now that they just told me they love me and I haven't said anything back.
No.
I can't lose them.
No fucking way.
The thought of losing them brought up so much pain than I can imagine. The thought of never seeing them again was harrowing.
"They just told me they love me," I told Clint as he hugged me. "They just told me and I didn't say anything back. I should've said something."
"I can't lose them, Clint," I raised my head and looked up at him as tears kept falling down my face. "I can't. I'll do whatever it takes to take them back."
Clint just nodded and brought my head back to his shoulders, "we'll find them. We will."
A few more minutes of just standing there with Clint, I finally calmed down. I took a few deep breaths and closed my eyes.
I can't break down right now. I have to get moving.
I unlatched from Clint's arms and wiped the remaining stains of tears from my face.
"Where do we fucking start?" I asked him.
"Don't you want to go get some rest? My people are working on it. I'll wake you up once I received any progress."
