"Ugh Brian," I groaned. "I don't wanna film your stupid band practice."
"You want to produce music videos," my older brother, Brian, ignored my complaints.
I rolled my eyes, annoyed by the way he used his age as a reason to boss me around. We lived alone but that didn't mean he had to be my parent. "I want to produce real music videos for real bands, not something for you and your friends to just throw on Youtube."
"You've gotta start somewhere."
"But you're not even paying me," I whined.
Brian rolled his eyes, "Think of it as free publicity."
I didn't feel like argueing with him any more, and I knew he would get his way eventually, so I just sighed and started setting up my tripods. I'd known about Brian and his band 'Pvris' (pronouced 'Paris') for a while, but I had never actually heard them play. I figured I should atleast give them a chance, and Brian was right, free - or in this case, unpaid - publicity is still publicity.
As I was fiddling around with my lights I heard the doorbell ring, "Your friends, not mine," I muttered.
"Yeah, yeah I'm getting it," Brian chuckled, setting down his bass. He knew I could never stay mad at him for long. I always tried to pretend to hold a grudge, but he saw right through me every time.
There were footsteps on the stairs and muffled chatter about the video we were about to film. I heard voices behind me, but having never met Brian's bandmates, I didn't recognize them.
"So," I heard a male voice, one that wasn't my brother, at the other end of the basement. "You said your sister was gonna produce our video?"
The next voice I heard was one I recognized. "Yeah she's really good at film production," Brian explained.
I hadn't really been introduced yet, so I stayed with my back turned to the voices and continued adjusting the lights and camera angles.
"Is that her cute little ass over there?" the male voice from earlier sounded like it was getting closer.
"Yeah that's my sister's ass, now quit looking at it!" I heard the sound of skin against skin as Brian slapped whoever had been staring at my butt.
"Hey I need somebody to stand in so I check the height setting on these lights," I said, turning around.
I was greeted by the sight of Brian, a tall brunette and a girl whose head was half shaved. The brunnette boy elbowed Brian, "I won't look at her ass if you let me look at the rest of her," he grinned. "You didn't tell me your sister was a babe."
I put my hand on my hip, "You gonna introduce yourself or are you just gonna keep checking me out?"
The brunette took a step towards me, his eyes trailing from my feet, all the way up to my eyes. "I'm Alex," he said in a low voice. "Who might you be?"
"Uh, I'm Blaire." In the split second that he asked the question, I finally had a chance to really check him out; and I almost forgot my own name. Alex was, well, hot. He was tall and lean, his arms littered with tattoos. His ears were gauged and he had blue/green eyes that I could feel burning a hole through my body. He was wearing a black tshirt and tight black jeans; I couldn't stop admiring how nice his legs were.
Alex took a step closer to me, our bodies growing uncomfortably close for having just met. I didn't back away though, I didn't want to seem rude. "Well Blaire," Alex dropped his voice in attempt to prevent his bandmates from hearing him. "If you're ever looking for a good time..." he let the sentence trail off as his eyes scanned my body again.
It was then that the effect of physical attractiveness wore off. "I don't wanna have sex with you," I said disgustedly, no longer concerned with being nice.
"Ooo, I like a challenge," he giggled.
"Brian," I called. "Take you pervy friend and go stand in for lights."
It was then that the girl, the one with shaved head, approached me. "I'm sorry about Alex, he's, well, Alex. I'm Lynn," she smlled and presented her hand, which I shook.
"Come on Lynn, are we gonna make a video or what?" Alex motioned for her to join him and Brian infront of my cameras.
Lynn rolled her eyes, "I was just waiting for you to stop drooling over Brian's sister long enough to put your guitar on."
"I'm not drooling," Alex scoffed. "I don't drool, only stare."
"How about you don't do either?" I said curtly. I was trying to be nice to Brian's bandmates, but I was running out of patientice for his douchey guitarist.
"Fiesty," Alex growled.
Brian pushed him to the side, "Cut it out and get to your spot, let's start this video all ready."
I shifted a few cameras, toned down a few of the lights and got everyone in their places. "St. Patrick, take one," I shouted, holding a clapboard in front of my camera. Brian had pulled up an mp3 file on my computer and I pushed play, ready to hear Pvris for the first time.
The music started and everyone began to play along. I watched as Lynn tapped her foot to the beat, bobbing her head and grabbing the microphone. "I know it's chemicals that make me cling to you," she sang. "And I need a mircale, to get away from you."
I almost died on the spot; Lynn was good. In fact, they were all good. Brian had always been a good bass player but I didn't think he could form a band. This was like, a legit band and holy crap they were good. Snapping out of my daze, I quickly ran from camera to camera; making sure everyone was in frame and in focus. When the song came to an end I cut the cameras, but I couldn't bring myself to say anything.
"So how did that look?" Brian asked.
I tried to shake away my shock, "Holy crap Bri, you guys are amazing. Lynn your voice is just, wow."
"Thanks," she giggled.
Brian raised his eyebrows, "Still mad about having to produce a video for my 'stupid band'?"
"No, no I take that back," I grinned. "You guys are something special." I made them play the song a few more times so I could get shots from different angles; finally allowing them to put their instruments down when I had enough footage to piece together a cool video.
"Thanks for filming our video," Lynn smiled. "That was really cool of you."
I assured her it was no problem as I began to pack up some of my equipment and export my camera footage; all the whlie feeling Alex's eyes trail up and down my body. "I should have it done by the end of the week," I promised, shooting Alex a knowing look, earning nothing but a smirk in response. "Maybe that will give you something to look at besides my ass."
There was a chorus of 'oooos' from Lynn and Brian as Lynn chanted "Rejected, rejected, you just got rejected."
Alex looked angry for a second but the emotion dissapeared so fast that I couldn't be sure if it was even there in the first place. "I wasn't rejected," he sneered; resuming his 'too cool' attitude. "I didn't even ask for anything. I never get rejected."
"Well there's a first time for everything," I chuckled, shutting my laptop.
"I guess you'll be a challenege," he whispered. "And I really do like a challenge."
