"Pizza, check. Soda, check. Laptop, turning on," I watched as Brian circled the living room; making sure everything was in place. Tonight was the big reveal of the music video I had produced, and Brian had invited his band mates over for a little 'release party'.
I listened to my brother continue to mumble under his breath as I sat down on the couch, exporting the final copy of the video. "When are they getting here?" I asked; eyeing the loading bar in the middle of my editing software.
"Well I told them to come at 8:00," Brian said in between more mumbling about his mental checklist. "So Lynn should be here by 7:50 and we'll be lucky if Alex gets here by 9:00." I chuckled, checking the clock and seeing that it was already 7:30. I figured I should help Brian set up so I left my laptop on the coffee table and began to straighten up the living room. I fluffed pillows, re-stacked the magazines and tried to make the place look more presentable; though I knew Brian's friends were gonna trash it by the end of the night anyway.
The doorbell's chimes flowed in from the front hallway. I heard Brian call "I'll get it!" from the kitchen. I made a few last adjustments to make the room look as presentable as possible and then joined Brian at the door. When he opened it I was greeted with the sight of Lynn and another, slightly shorter girl with dark brown hair. Her hair was also shaved, but not the way Lynn's was; and the ends of her hair were blonde; it wasn't a very good ombre, but I guess as a dip dye it worked.
She must have noticed my staring because she stuck out her hand and said, "Hi, I'm Lynn's girlfriend, Alexa." I shook her hand, introducing myself as Blaire, Brian's sister and producer extraordinaire (I might have embellished a bit) and Brian and I stepped away so they could enter the house.
"Is Alex here yet?" Lynn asked, taking Alexa's coat and throwing it, along with hers, over the railing of the stairs.
Brian and Alexa laughed at her crazy thought. "Of course not," Brian rolled his eyes, leading us back into the living room. "So remember to save some pizza for him, or he'll kill us all."
We made ourselves comfortable as Brian set the food on the table, careful not to spill anything on my laptop. Brian and Lynn began to dig into the pizza while Alexa and I struggled to snatch a piece for ourselves. Not too much later the doorbell rang again. "Can you answer that?" Brian asked, a mouthful of pizza. I sighed, but got up anyways.
It was no shock that I opened the door to Alex; although I was surprised to see him so disheveled. His shirt was wrinkled, his hair was only half in place and he had missed a few loops when he last put on his belt. I tried to tell myself it wasn't attractive, not in the slightest; but I knew I was lying to myself. However, the knowledge that he seemed to be dick helped stop any real feelings for him. "Nice to see you here," he said, somewhat hoarsely.
"I do live here," I managed to reply, rather awkwardly.
"Well aren't I lucky," he winked. I crossed my arms over my chest as his eyes trailed over me again. Noticing my look of dissatisfaction he whispered, "Don't be uncomfortable, I like the view." I decided to change the view a bit, uncrossing my arms and instead holding up two middle fingers. "Come on babe we gotta go inside," he called walking down the hall.
I was about to tell him off for calling me that when a tall busty blonde stepped through the door. "Uh, who is this?" I called to Alex.
"Oh," he turned to face me again. "That's Carolin, she's my plus one." He sent me a mischievous look and I watched as the girl followed him into my house; hips swaying, practically tripping over the height of her heels.
"Hey look," Lynn laughed. "Alex is here before 9:00, and he brought..." her voice trailed off as we all exchanged glances between each other and the double d-ed elephant in the room.
