Jisung went straight to the cemetery after school, sitting abruptly on the grass in front of the grave with a huff.
"I'm going insane." He whined, his hands pushing into his eyes.
"Why can't he just be a weirdo, or like a sexist or something? Why is he perfect? And why does he have to be around me all the time?" He ranted on and on to the headstone. Eventually he sighed.
"I don't know what to do, Jiwon. I like him. It's never gonna go away but I know it'll never work, or maybe it will. I mean he doesn't have a soulmate, I don't have a soulmate, maybe Soowon's right. Maybe it's like fate?" Jisung prompted, but when all he heard was silence he lost the hope in his eyes. "I know, it's stupid, I know. I just...I..." Jisung sighed again. "I just don't want to be without him."
Tuesday was, mostly, back to normal. Although, Jisung still yelled at himself throughout the day for the way he'd acted. Minho didn't bother pester him about it, he wasn't sure if bringing it up would make it better or a million times worst.
Jisung and Minho walked out to the front of the school that afternoon as their math classes were fairly close to each other's.
"Eunsah's working late tonight right? Want me to pick up Nijoo and Soowon?" Minho offered as they approached his car.
"Yeah, sure. Thanks." Jisung smiled.
"Minho! Minho! Minho!" Nijoo screamed as she ran up to him. She wrapped arms around his legs briefly before she promptly waited for the car door to be opened for her.
"Well, hi to you too." Minho opened the door for her. "There you are, your majesty." Nijoo jumped in without a second thought, followed by an extremely embarrassed Soowon who continued to cover both sides of her face as she slid into the back seat. Minho laughed to himself as he got back in the driver's seat.
"How was your day?" Jisung asked them.
"Sam bought me this." Soowon held out a necklace that had an infinity symbol hanging on it. "He says it's like our initials combined to make a infinite lifetime." Jisung saw the love in her eyes. She was growing up so fast. Sixteen and she already went after her soulmate? Of course he was happy for her, but can't a non-brother foster brother have a little concern for his non-sister foster sister?
"That's really sweet, I'm glad you're happy." He smiled. Soowon sat back, still admiring the charm.
"Sungie?" She whined as she slumped into her seat. Jisung hummed, his eyes facing forward again. "What's a soulmate?" Nijoo turned her head in curiosity. Jisung's eyes shot up as he turned back around in his seat to face Nijoo in the back of the car.
"Why's that?" He avoided, not sure if he really had an answer.
"Soowon keeps talking about hers and the kids at school keep talking about their red strings and soulmates. But I don't get it, how does this red string know what a soulmate is when I don't even know what it is?" She complained, sitting forward on the edge of her seat to be closer to Jisung.
"Well...a soulmate is the person you're meant to spend the rest of you're life with." Jisung tapped the edge of his seat with his fingers, biting his lip. "It's, it's someone who makes you laugh, and comforts you when you cry. Someone who understands you..." Jisung couldn't help his eyes drifting to Minho in the driver's seat. "...better than anyone." Jisung had lost his train of thought, suddenly focused on Minho alone. Something felt right and something felt so very very wrong, and he knew it.
"Oh...so like a girlfriend?" Jisung flinched back to face Nijoo.
"Uh, yeah, if you want. It can be anyone. But you should wait before you run off trying to find them, you've still got plenty of living to do before then." Jisung cooed, pinching her nose between his fingers, causing her to go into a laughing fit.
