Minho stepped inside placing his keys on the table beside the door. They both pulled their shoes off as they walked into the main room. Jisung hid behind Minho a bit as he'd spotted a woman in the kitchen. She wore a strawberry patterned apron as she kneaded dough with a happy tune.
"Oh, Minho, I thought you were out." She looked up, resting her hands on the table covered in flour.
"Oh...yeah, I was. Where's dad?" Minho changed the subject. The lady dusted off her hands, cleaning them on the tea towel that hung off her apron. She walked over with a bright smile.
"Now hold on, who's this?" Minho rolled his eyes to the side. Jisung wasn't sure how to act and so he just gave her a tight smile.
"I asked you where Dad was." Minho didn't even hesitate to ignore her efforts to introduce herself. The lady sighed.
"He's in the yard watering the grass." Jisung could sense the tension between the two, scared that if he made the wrong move it would set them off. Minho didn't acknowledge her any further and headed to the back door, towards the garden.
Once they were out of earshot, Jisung stumbled closer to Minho to engage in conversation.
"Was that you're mum or...?"
"No." Jisung flinched slightly at the short answer. He figured by Minho's tone that it wasn't a subject he should push any further, so instead, he stayed silent as they went outside.
Jisung continued to follow him through the back door, watching him slide it open and step out onto the concrete ground. There, Jisung saw a man with a scruffy beard and a cap, holding a hose limp in his hand as he swayed it back and forth to spray water over the blades of grass.
"Hey Dad, oh, uh, this is Jisung." The man turned, his fairly monotoned expression quickly changing to a wide smile. Jisung messily scrambled to put his hand out, surprised by the sudden introduction.
"Nice to meet you, son, you make yourself at home, won't you?" Jisung glanced at Minho who only gave him an adoring smile. Jisung nodded already feeling the comfort the man radiated just from the smile he held to his cheeks. "You hungry? My wife makes a mean dumpling." The man winked at him.
"I'm sure she does sir, but I wouldn't want to impose," Jisung insisted. The man shook his head, waving his hands.
"No, no, please, she always makes too many. In fact, I'd make a bet she's making a vegetarian batch right now for her meeting tomorrow." The man chuckled, Jisung smiled with him.
"Yeah Dad, we'll have some later," Minho told him, as he gently pulled Jisung to leave.
"Okay then, you boys have fun." The man waved.
Minho guided Jisung to his room. Jisung walked in and took a seat on his bed.
"You're Dad seems really nice." Minho sat down beside Jisung sliding his jacket off to throw onto the floor.
"Yeah, he's great," Minho assured Jisung. "Sorry for being blunt before, she just gets me mad sometimes." Jisung carefully nodded, playing with the sleeve of his hoodie as he bit his lip.
"If you don't mind me asking, who is she?" Minho laid back on the sheets, pulling his hands behind his head. Jisung looked over, only now noticing that Minho had pretty big arm muscles.
"Step-mum, my mum lives on the other side of town. It's not that I hate my step-mum, we just don't really get along." Jisung didn't react for a moment, still looking at Minho, before breaking from his stare and nodding. He carefully laid back, his head falling just beside Minho's elbow. Minho quickly moved to place his arms down beside him instead, wiggling slightly closer in the process.
