July 1st

That was the day I met him. It was hot outside but I still wore my black, baggy hoodie. I remember I had been looking for pasta when someone on a cart came flying down the isle.

The sides of our bodies knocked into each other, and due to the speed he had been going, I was spun around and slightly backwards into the shelf. I briefly heard the cart skid to a halt.

"Shit, man, are you okay? I probably shouldn't have been doing that, I'm sorry." The guy rubbed the back of his neck and held out his hand for me to take. He helped pull me up and when I looked at him, my first thought was 'oh fuck, pretty boy'.

"Oh, it's all good. Woke me up, to say the least. Besides, it's not often you see grown men riding shopping carts down the isles." We both laughed and he shook his head.

"I'm Ethan." He held out his hand once more, this time for me to shake.

"The name's Arlo." I shook his hand and he smiled down at me. God, he was way taller than me.

"Arlo, eh? I like that name."

"Thanks, I picked it myself." I gave this toothy sort of grin. From that moment on, me and Ethan were friends. He said I had a cool vibe or something lame like that, and we exchanged numbers.

When I got home, I put my groceries away and I went to my room to greet my little furball.

"Hey, Sunny." I stuck my hand in her cage for her to sniff and nibble at my finger. Sunny is my pet chinchilla, and she was basically all I had to live for up until now, because now I had a friend.

I sat down at my desk and switched on my drawing tablet. Art is what I did for a living- my mom likes to pay for most of my stuff, but I like being at least somewhat independent and paying for my own basic necessities.

I worked on a recent request for the next hour until my phone buzzed.

I smiled to myself and saved the contact as "Ethan from the store" and typed back my reply.

I jumped onto my bed, my trans flag blanket messing up as I did so. I set my phone done, and waited for the next ding.

We were going to get along, I could tell.
