AND THUS IT BEGAN

CHAPTER 9

MARCO ROMANO :

    It had been a stressful couple of weeks especially with the event coming up and the business both legal and illegal, it was like I couldn't spare a moment without someone bringing something that they needed me to do for them.

I knew that I wanted all of it but it felt like I was paying for more than I desired to keep, I couldn't even remember the last time I closed my eyes without some document been presented for signing or what not.

All of this for a time to come when I might, hopefully find Catherina and give her the world, all this hard work dedicated to the love of my life whom till this moment I had no clue where she could be.

Today was the day of the event and I had spent it inspecting every aspect of the preparations, the press were here, the families had began to arrive and as It stands everything seemed to be going perfectly normal.

  I needed to get this over with but I had only one wish that I hoped someone somewhere would grant, and it was that somehow Catherina would see this, would see me and see that I became someone worthy of her love and affection, I hoped she would see that I could finally give her the world without breaking a sweat, that I finally bought her dream home in the center of Sicily where she could see everything from her window, I hoped she could see that I finally became a man, the man for her, I just hoped she wasn't with anyone, I couldn't care less though, she was mine from the first day I set eyes on her and I sure as hell had no plans of loosing her.

I was distracted from my thoughts by the vibration of my phone and I didn't realize when a smile formed when I read Sophie's message, the kid was wishing me luck in my event and that she couldn't wait to see me and introduce me to her mom.

I had a feeling that she was trying to set her mom and I together, If only she knew that my heart belonged to one woman and one woman alone,
I planned on being friends with her mom for her sake, at least I didn't want to hurt her little feelings.

Sophie apart from Catherina was the only other person I cared deeply for, she was a spunky kid, had elegance a bit too much for her age, could never be intimidated and would threaten the shit out of you if you did her wrong, it was always good to hear about her day cause even if the little girl did basically nothing she still sassily said it like breathing alone was a job.

I remember when I asked her how old she was and when her next birthday would be, she immediately gasped over the phone and said:

   "Oh dio, non lo chiedi mai a una donna."
(Oh dio, you never ask a woman that, Ever.)

I laughed so hard I shed tears cause it was funny how she was referring to herself as a woman, the kid had to be around five years old or there about.

I apologized though then asked when her birthday would be so I could get her gift.
The little angel had said her birthday was a couple of weeks away so I asked what she wanted and I was shocked at her request, she said she wanted a trip to any country of her mother's choice, said she was saving for it and she didn't care if it took all her life, she would do it.
In that instant I swore that I would help her reach that dream, even if it was the only thing I ever did.

     "What's got you all smiles man"
Luca asked, looking at me weird.
If he wasn't my brother he would have been dust and ashes by now, that was for sure.

   "just got a message from Sophie"
I replied, leaning back in my chair.

    "Sophie?, who's Sophie?"
He asked genuinely curious.

   ''You remember the kid I told you about, the one who tricked me into giving her a couple of bills the last time I visited New York?"
I asked, smiling at the smartness of the little crook.

"Oh yeah, you know it's funny how kids are this days, I met this kid today, her name was Sophie too and that kid was Sassy, funny, adorable, you name it, but she was one hell of an intelligent little girl"
That really caught my interest, was there a possibility that it was the same Sophie.?

  "can you describe her cause I feel like it could be the same one"
I asked, I mean, what were the chances that it wasn't the same one.

   "Tan skin, brown hair, beautiful green eyes, actually now that I look at you, I think you look alike, probably yay height, speaks too good for her age and has the most sexiest woman alive as a mom"
His description fit Sophie's stature perfectly well.

   "She's the same person but how did you meet her mom?"
I asked rather curiously, I've been talking to the kid close to a month now and I had never seen even a picture of the mom.

   "At the salon, needed a trim so I went over to that salon at the other side of town, they got good stuff there, Soph and her mom were there too so we hung out before I rushed back here"
He explained before going to the shelf to pour a drink.

  "What a small world, I'll be going over there to visit tomorrow, you wanna come? I'm sure she'll love to see you again"
I requested cause I could use some adult company in case her mom and I don't get along.

   "Oh yeah sure, I'll love that, I'll just go get her some teddy or whatever kids like this days , I like the kid a lot"

   "Just don't go flirting with her mom Luca, I won't mind running a bullet through your leg"
I threatened even If I would never do that.

   "You think so little of me Marco, of course I'll never do that, besides I don't see Adriana like that, she's beautiful and all but she's got this homey vibe to her, you know the type you feel with siblings? Yeah, so no I won't go flirting with her"

I'm glad we are on the same page then.
