Amethyst was in her room, laid in a bed, which cushion had holes with springs jumping through them. Surrounded by her trash, she was at ease and knew she would hardly be interrupted.
With Peridot's tablet in hand, she searched for the part Pearl skipped while reading Red Diamond's report.
"Found it!" She said triumphantly. "Let's go!"
***********
From Homeworld I went to the chosen planet. In an instant, I was already at its dark and sandy ground.
I looked at the bubble in my hand. Pearl was fine. I searched for a place to hide and take her out of the bubble safely.
In something that seemed to be a cave, I released her from my bubble and watched as her jewel shined and she reestablished her physical form with grace and beauty.
"Are you alright?" I asked worried.
"Yes, my diamond." Pearl replied.
"Look, we are going to get in a war here, so call me just Red, okay? It's easier and quick and that way none of them will know I'm a diamond. If that information somehow slips out of this planet, it may cause future problems."
"Understood... Red." She said.
Hearing her saying my name made me smile automatically and for some reason she smiled back at me. Tender moments apart, we were there for a mission.
"Stay here." I told her. "I'm going to check what's around us and be right back."
Pearl only nodded with her head and I flew upward as I got smaller and smaller. If any living being saw me, it would mistake me for a tiny animal.
The planet was dark. The ground dusty and hard. All I could see were extensions of black sand without anything especial and farther, in the direction of the cave's entrance where Pearl was, I could see big and pointed shadows like crooked buildings with a large base and a thin top. However, later I found out they were big crystals that propped from the ground, which the natives lived in. I went back to the cave and grew to my normal size.
"I don't like this place." I told Pearl trying to think my next step.
"Did you find something?" She asked me apprehensive and at same time, I noticed that in her voice there wasn't that servile tone anymore, which made me more comfortable.
"Nothing." I said. "That's the problem. They have high technology and powerful weapons. Here" I indicated our location "there's not even evidence of life in sight. We will have to walk. I think there might be something in that direction" I pointed at the crystals "but I have the feeling that soon it's going to be battle after battle, so I need to know: can you fight?"
Quickly, she made her jewel shine and from it, she retrieved a beautiful transparent crystal spear. Pearl turned it in her fingers with skill and stopped the blade at my neck. That pearl was bold and I liked it.
"I heard you had a high esteem for pearls, but it seems you underestimate us as everybody else." She said.
"I don't underestimate you. I just never had the honor of seeing pearls being who they truly are and doing all they can do, beyond what they already do." I couldn't resist and I took Pearl's spear away from my neck; turning it around with strength while I pulled Pearl to me, her back at my chest; caging her between my body and her own weapon. "If you could show me, I would love to see what a pearl can do."
She showed me by strongly hitting me with her elbow. If I had to breathe, surely I would be out of breath. Due the sudden attack and the pain, I dropped the spear and she used it to knock the back of my legs making me fall to the ground as she mounted me with her blade once again at my neck.
