Content & Trigger warning: Mentions of death
She was breathtaking.
She always was.
From the first time I laid eyes on her up to this very moment. Nina sucked all the air out of my lungs whenever she entered a room. She captivated my attention and I fell prey to her aura. I stood there, frozen, as I watched her from a distance. She looked beautiful in her dress, the color complimenting her, like it was made for her. Then again, in my eyes, Nina looked good in everything. I could see the nervous expression on her face. Probably nitpicking at every single detail, knowing how much of a perfectionist she was; a trait I learned to live with and loved. Her hands fidgeted, occasionally toying with the details on her dress.
I smiled to myself.
It was funny how I found myself in the very same position once more. It brought me back to the very first time I laid my eyes on her, transported to that night in the club when I first saw her. Nina loved to dance. She loved getting lost in the music. She may not have remembered me since she was drunk during that accidental facetime but I did. I remembered. I held back on introducing myself to her that night. I didn't know what to say especially after that not responding to her since my phone feel in the pool. Ang malas naman.
I didn't know why but fate kept bringing us together, our paths crossing. I was convinced it was telling me something and that I needed to stop letting these chances pass by. It was funny how I almost always chanced on her drunk too. Regardless, I thought to look for a way to still get in touch with her when she was sober. I much preferred her sober.
Nina made me feel. She reminded me that it was alright to do so. Joy, kilig, uncertainty, jealousy, and so much more. Nina evoked so many emotions in me. She made me feel human. She reminded me I was capable of loving and so I did. I loved her. I loved her with everything I was and everything I had.
"Tatayo ka lang ba diyaan?" siniko ako ni Lolo Felix sa gilid.
"Po?" I looked confused.
"Nandon si Nina, oh." He tilted his head. "Lapitan mo."
"Okay lang po," Bumitaw ako ng malalim na hininga.
"Anong okay lang? Ang lapit na ni Nina, oh? Papakawalan mo pa ba?"
"Okay na po ito. Tanggap ko na po na baka...baka kailangan ko talaga siyang pakawalan. Na baka hindi kami itinadhana para sa isa't isa."
Tumawa si Lolo. Napatingin ako sa kanya.
"We make our destiny, Mikie. Your fate is in your own hands. Kung hahayaan mo na aalis si Nina, na sa'yo na iyon. Pero sa palagay mo, nagawa mo na ba lahat? Na kung papakawalan mo si Nina, masasabi mo na sinubukan mo lahat? Only then can you say you were not meant to for each other. Walang wrong timing sa pagmamahal. A moment lost is a moment you will never get back. Time does not stop for souls who are meant to be together. Kung mahal mo iyong tao, sabihin mo. Iparamdam mo. Huwang mong itago. Siya—" he glanced at Nina and I followed. "Mahal mo siya diba?"
