The Affair (Wanda Maximoff)

chapter twelve

I made it home after just walking out of class. I felt bad but also didn't. More so for Wanda because of the way I spoke in her class but she had no right acting like she was my teacher.

I went straight to my room and just plopped down on my bed. I was so irritated with myself for how I reacted last night. Even after hours of thinking about it though I know I did the right thing. I just wish for once I didn't.

I checked my phone and realized I've already been home for a while and class had ended. I had to start getting ready for the game in three hours so I decided to just take a nap before to hopefully help clear my mind if I can fall asleep. As I was sleeping though I kept getting text messages but I didn't know until my alarm went off to wake me up 30 minutes before I had to leave for the game.

I looked at the texts and didn't know what she wanted me to say. Mentally I couldn't deal with it either because I have a big game soon and need to get ready. I just decided to send a quick text back.

Wands

look i'm sorry for class and last night but I really can't do this rn Wands.

She read it almost instantly but I decided to shut off my phone and mentally prepare myself for this game tonight. I had about 25 minutes now to get ready and get my bag packed. I got dressed in my uniform and grabbed everything I needed and went to my car and drove to the school. I like going early because the gym won't have a lot of people in there so I can practice around.

I went to put my bag in my locker after putting my shoes on. I grabbed my headphones and put my hype music on to get in the right mindset. I shot around for over an hour before people started flooding in to the gym so I walked out and into the locker room. Most my team was in there already getting ready for the game.

After having our pep talk with our coach we were about to make our entrance to the gym. Our whole team runs out and we start our warmups. As captain I lead the line on our run out.

Captains got called up to the side line to shake hands with the other captains from the opposite team. As Nikki and I got called over I saw where Sam, Dylan and Luke were all sitting and with my luck today it was right behind Wanda and her wife. Of course where the refs were it was right in front of them so I slowed my pace down so Nikki would be closer to them instead of me. I'm guessing Wanda noticed it was me because I could see her eyes looking straight at me. As I went to go shake the other captains hands and then the refs I saw Danyelle say something to Wanda as she pointed towards me.

I wouldn't have done what I did next if I didn't see Wanda laugh after whatever she said. I did something very petty but didn't care. I walked up to my group of friends and hugged them then kissed Dylan on the check. As I backed away from him I heard Wandas breathe hitched and she got up and went to the bathroom. I so badly wanted to run after her but couldn't because the game was about to start.

Wanda came back in after 10 minutes and I noticed as I was bringing up the ball. I quickly snapped back into the game and went on. A lot of glances were exchanged towards Wanda and I but I tried my best to just focus. I was doing surprisingly good usually after a day like today I wouldn't be doing so hot.

The last and final quarter was about to start and we were down by 6 points currently. We started with the ball and I had Nikki take it up as we ran our play she passed it to me and I went to the hoop for a layup. The girl who was guarding me, #5 kept pushing me around aggressively. I stood my ground but she was getting more and more aggressive and it was pissing me off. I made the shot which only had us down by 4 now. #5 was taking the ball up the court and she was using her weak hand so I went in for the steal and tipped it away. I slid on the ground diving for the ball and as I got it and passed it to my teammate #5 again decided to be rough and stepped on my arm as she walked over me. I grunted in pain as I tried to shake it off. Everyone saw what she did and I was right by my friends and Wanda and Dylan stood up yelling at the ref along side others. The ref came up to me and asked if I was okay I was annoyed as I wiped my face with my jersey. "I'm fine watch 5 and this wouldn't be an issue." I said angrily as I huffed and got back into the game.

We were only down by 2 now and had 2 minutes left in the game. My shoulder was killing me from what she did to me. I just rolled it right off and continued. We had a timeout and so we used it come up with a plan. The plan ended with me going for the shot.

I took the ball out and passed it in to the guard as I ran to the opposite side of the court getting into position. I looked at the clock and I had 10 seconds to make this play. I started it and grabbed the ball. I made it through 2 girls and went up for the layup. As I was going up #5 came from behind me and shoved her body into me as I released the shot and rammed me into the concrete wall that is a little bit behind the basketball hoop. Next thing I know i'm screaming in pain on the floor and I can't breathe.
