As I have been doing the past weeks, I am posting my tweets from the #Wattpad4 chat. The theme was how to write descriptive settings.
Describe the setting through actions.
You don't have to describe everything. Instead describe what your character sees. Are they more likely to notice food or artwork?
Cliched settings can provide comic relief if you do it right.
Remember, God gave us five senses, so use them all.
How does the ocean smell? How does it taste? How does it feel?
What's on your character's dresser? What's on their floor?
If your character is running, how much are they going to notice? Not much.
If your settings are flat, I don't feel your story.
Let's continue that discussion here.
How do you write descriptive settings?
