It was your first day on the ship. Your first opportunity at a job like this. It paid well, and seemed simple enough. Just keep the ship working properly. It felt a bit too good to be true, but you didn't really consider that for too long since you had stuff to get done.
You didn't really know anybody on the ship, but you didn't plan on socializing if you didn't have to. You'd only speak if it was required for your tasks.
Heading down the hall towards the cafeteria, you adjusted your helmet as you approached the others on the ship. Everyone surrounded the table, each of them in a different colored spacesuit. You stood near someone wearing red. You couldn't really see their face through the glass of their helmet, but it wasn't like you cared.
A person in a purple suit began to speak. "Alright everyone! Welcome to the ship! Each of you have a tablet with you. It lists your tasks for today and it has a map of the ship, in case you need it. Make sure to get everything done!" they said cheerfully. You nodded and headed to the hall to the right, to the room labeled "Weapons" on the map.
You fixed up the wires near the entrance, as well as downloaded the information from the screen on the wall. Right as you were about to head out the room, you noticed some movement out of the corner of your eye. You turned around swiftly, but nothing was there. You could've sworn there was some movement from that vent. You didn't dwell on it as you headed into the next room.
Your next task was to dump the trash on the ship in the storage room, as well as take the gas can and fill the engines up. You headed down the halls, watching other people going to where they needed as well.
Making it to the storage room, you pulled down the lever, releasing the garbage out. Someone wearing green started to approach you.
"Hey, how are you?" they asked.
"I'm good. I have stuff to do, so I'll be on my way." you said.
"Surely you can spare a second to chat? You don't have to get everything done so fast."
"I'd just like to work without any interruptions." you said coldly as you picked up the gas can and walked towards the lower engine room.
Green walked in the opposite direction, feeling a bit hurt. You didn't really care about the others on the ship. Time would just be wasted trying to speak to them.
---
After half an hour, you only had one task left. You needed to head into electrical and fix the last bit of wiring. You were surprisingly exhausted. Maybe it was all the walking around. You entered the electrical room, and noticed how it was darker than the other rooms. Feeling unease, you slowly went to the back wall, and quickly fixed up the wires.
You flinched at the sound of metal clanking, and looked towards the left. The cover of the vent was slightly slid off, but you didn't see anything in it. You took a deep breath and quickly stood up. Speed walking out the room, you slightly rushed towards the cafeteria. You feel like you'd be safer in there.
As you entered the large room, several others were seated at the tables, talking to each other and eating the food on their trays. You got yourself a tray and sat at a table in the back by yourself. You removed your helmet and ate your meal. It was surprisingly good, for cafeteria food.
You slowly forgot about what happened in electrical. It was probably just a rat or something, and you didn't really want to worry about it. Finishing your food, you stood up and headed towards the crewmates quarters. You had to share a room with several other people, and it annoyed you a little bit.
Several bunk beds were organized in the room, and some people were already in the room. Someone wearing orange was searching through their bag they brought onto the ship, another wearing purple was talking to someone in green, and one in blue was sitting on their bed.
As you entered the room, Purple perked up and waved towards you. "Speak of the devil! How are you doing, Yellow? There's something that we need to discuss," Purple said, as cheerful as ever.
You slightly tilted your head in curiosity. "What is it?" you asked.
"Well, Green told me that you aren't very.... sociable. And, as the captain of this ship, I must ask you to be a bit more open. Socialization is key for getting things done, so it would be nice if you could just talk to others, just a little bit. Alright?" Purple said, a smile on their face.
You nodded. You started to feel a bit bad for what you said to Green. "Sorry, Green." you apologized as you passed by them. You headed towards your bed, and rummaged through your bag for your phone to check the time. It was only 9 PM, but you were fairly tired. You took your bag to one of the bathrooms to get changed and ready for sleep.
When you were done, you set your bag back by your bed and laid down onto bottom bunk of the bed. You thought about what happened today. You took it upon yourself to try and be nicer to others. It didn't take long for you to fall asleep, and you had a peaceful, dreamless sleep.
