Chapter 7
"It is not self-seeking."
----Destiny Salvatore's Heart-
Hush, little baby, don't say a word,
Mama's gonna buy you a mockingbird.
And if that mockingbird won't sing,
Mama's gonna buy you a diamond ring."Hush Destiny. You know she won't come. She won't and she's busy." I whispered to myself while staring at the ceiling. I sighed and continued singing so I can fall asleep. This is what I would always do to calm myself or if I want to sleep. But I don't feel drowsy at all kahit past 1AM na. Ikaw ba naman na mag-isa sa malaking hospital bed, at tanging lamp shade on the table ang nagseserve as ilaw, makakatulog ka kaya? It's kinda creepy, but honestly, I'm used to it. I closed my eyes and covered my face with my hands.
And if that diamond ring turns brass,
Mama's gonna buy you a looking glass.
If that looking glass gets broke,
Mama's gonna buy you a billy goat."Hush Des. Hush." I whispered to myself again, my voice shaky. I was trying my best not to cry but I failed nonetheless. Mom, I need you right now.
If that billy goat won't pull,
Mama's gonna buy you a cart and bull.
If that cart and bull turns over,
Mama's gonna buy you a dog named Rover.I know how my mom is busy with work. She has a hectic schedule, so it's really impossible for her to visit me and I really can't blame her for that. Pero sana man lang tumawag siya to check up on me.
If that dog named Rover won't bark,
Mama's gonna buy you a horse and cart.
If that horse and cart fall down,
You'll still be...You'll still be...I broke down. Even if I didn't want to, I did. Pero ayos lang, 'cause I'm all alone, in this quiet and dark room. At least no one else can see me crying and hurting. I also felt that particular pain over my chest again but I ignored it. I wiped my tears away and turned to my left without opening my eyes. Medyo nakatulong ang pag-iyak ko and now I'm ready to drift off to sleep. I pulled the blanket past my shoulders pero ang lamig pa rin. Hm, must be from the airconditioner.
"You'll still be the sweetest baby in town." someone whispered sa right ear ko. His voice was scary, and his breath was so damn cold which instantly brought shivers on my spine. And that alone was enough to wake me up.
"We meet again, Destiny." he smirked at me. I parted my lips para may masabi ako but I can't find my voice. I couldn't move at all and the only thing I did was to stare at him. Kung sa nabigla ba ako or sa takot na bigla siyang nag-appear, was beyond me.
"Aren't you going to say hi?" he asked teasingly and grinned next. If it weren't for his mask sa may eye niya, baka hindi ako matatakot.
I asked when I found my voice again. He smiled and stood up next. I sat upright and saw him standing sa may paanan ng kama ko.
"To tell you my secrets." he replied without hesitations. My brows furrowed from what he said. Secrets? What was he talking about? And as if reading my mind, ngumiti ulit siya, pero ewan ko kung bakit parang malungkot ang ngiti niya na ‘yon.
"Ang bilis mo naman makalimot. The other day, you bombarded me with questions. It's time para sagutin ko na ang lahat ng iyon." he explained. Okay, that actually makes sense. Napatango ako sa kanya, urging him to continue talking.
"I'm Thanatos, and I'm a Death God." Oh, kaya pala kakaiba siya. Kasi he's a death god. Teka, he's a what?!
"C-Come again? Nabingi ata ako." It can't be, I mean, okay, mukha siyang death god pero bakit ko siya nakikita?! Tinitigan niya ako at maya-maya lang, he laughed. He freaking laughed at me and honestly, I want to slap him! This is not a laughing matter! Paano pa niya nakuhang tumawa?
"Hindi ka nabingi. Tama ang pagkaka-rinig mo." he said nang tumigil na siya from his laughing fit.
"And as to why mo ako nakikita..." he trailed off. He pointed his index finger on the window, and I wasn't surprised when his finger created a thick moist. Later on, he began tracing something on the window. I blew some air out dahil sa annoyance.
"Anak naman ng kung anong sanggano eh! Sabihin mo na kung bakit kita nakikita!" I told him irritatingly.
"Here's your answer." he said nang matapos siya magsulat sa window. Tiningnan ko nang mabuti ang bintana and the only thing na nakita ko ay numbers 5 and 0. 50, what is he trying to imply?
"50! Great! You've successfully added a new confusion to my mind, thank you very much." I rolled my eyes on him. To my dismay, he started laughing his butt off again. Ugh!
"Ikaw na din ang nagsabi, 50-50." sabi niya, emphasizing the word '50-50'. 50 50? Ano bang—Oh my God! No! He couldn't mean that!
"Y-You mean...I..." he nodded, his face was void of any emotions. Oh God, I can't seem to find the right words to utter. 50-50, that can only mean one thing! That I'm going to—
"N-No. No. You've got to be...You've got to be joking. Yes! You are definitely just joking! Hah! That can't be. That can't be true! Not at all. You hear me? Not. At. All." I cried. I know I look like a crazy chic who's going out of her mind right now but I don't give a damn! He can't be serious about it. I shook my head frantically and looked down on my lap.
"I'm sorry." he whispered. The way he said it was sincere, pero hindi pa ‘yun sapat para ma-comfort ako completely.
"How many days?" I found myself asking but I didn't look up to him. "How many days do I have left?"
"50." he answered, and later on, the cold breeze disappeared. I knew right then and there that he, too, had disappeared. I looked up again, only to see the big numbers he wrote on the window, were slowly vanishing.
