Chapter 29- The Explosion

—Rose's POV—

Everything felt so sad as we passed through the abandoned buildings. I put my hand on Finnick's, so I could calm myself down

I have this bad feeling and my intuition tells me that something horrible will happen really soon

I looked at my side and saw Josh and , just like me, he seemed not really ok with all of this. I understand him. For the second time, he had to leave his family behind. The only problem is that, this time we don't know if we will get out of this war alive

We saw a car coming to us. Out of there got Peeta. As he got close to us, Katniss aimed her bow at him

I instantly took a step forward and went close to Peeta

"Don't do anything, Katniss" I said and saw her putting it down

I turned back to Peeta

"It's ok" I said and he smiled a little

I saw them cuffing him.........maybe this is for the best or maybe not

Why would Coin send Peeta to us, if he could kill Katniss? That only made me doubt the intentions of that woman even more

Unfortunately, we can't trust everyone anymore

I woke up by Peeta's voice while he was talking to Katniss. I saw that Finnick, who was by my side, also got up

"Then ask" my husband said

"Ask who?" Peeta asked

"Us, we are your unit now" Commander Jackson said while joining our conversation

I put my head on Finnick's shoulder and start playing with the ring on his left hand. I look at Peeta and saw him having difficulties with everything

"You told me back then that your favorite color is orange" I said trying to start a conversation

I saw him smiling a little

"Thank you.......for everything" he said and I smiled

He then looked at Katniss. He needed to know more things about him and she was the best person to tell him that

"You are a painter, you are a baker. You always sleep with the windows open, you never take sugar in your tea. You always.........always double knot your shoelaces" she said the last part with a sad expression followed by a tear

He nodded but I could see how much nervous Katniss was about all of this

"You are right. I can't do this" she said

We all stayed in silence. I felt arms around me making me lay down again. I looked at my husband and saw him smiling at me

"You have to rest, my love"

I nodded and hugged him tightly. What is going to happen tomorrow? Nobody knows. We can die all tomorrow, so I want to make sure that I will enjoy the last moments of my life

I felt Finnick kissing my hair

What if I lost him?.........no, that would be too cruel. I mean, after everything that we have been through, would the universe be so evil at the point that we wouldn't have a happy ending?

That can't happen. I won't let it happen

No matter what happens, I need to save my Finnick. Even if that means that I have to die

"Listen up! Mag's empty. It's only for the propo" Boggs said and gave the gun to Peeta, who didn't seemed too sure of this "Let's move, we are headed five blocks north"

I saw Katniss looking at the gun with fear. I quickly took her hand

"He will not hurt you. I promise" I said and felt her gripping my hand tightly

We start walking hand in hand. Behind us stood Finnick, Josh and Peeta. Finnick was writing Peeta's speech

"To the citizens of the Capitol, our war is not with you" Finnick said waiting for the boy of district twelve to repeat

"You will be a vital part in the democracy that follows our victory"

"You got it" Finnick said

He reluctantly nodded and we start walking again

"Boggs! This is a good spot. Down there through the courtyard" Cressida said

"Let's clear it" he said turning to us

As we moved the holo start making sounds

"I got a pod........Split, take over" he said

Because my hand was still interlocked with Katniss's, we went to the same direction. We stayed there hidden behind the wall

The next sound I heard was bullets being fired. I looked at Finnick and he tried to calm me down by smiling but, even from afar, I could still see that it was a fake one

After what seemed like forever, Boggs finally spoke again

"Gale, Holmes. With me. Leeds take the wings"

We moved forward but before I could think about what was happening a explosion was heard. Katniss, whose hand still is together with mine, ran right towards it, making me go with her

I gasped as I saw Boggs on the floor without his legs. I felt arms around me and immediately knew that familiar perfume that belonged to the love of my life

That was surely an image that I will never take out of my mind
