This afternoon my grandma woke me up around 2:30. I got up to take a shower and wash all my makeup off. As went into the bathroom and looked in the mirror I was shocked to see I look like The Nightmare on Elm Street. So I grabbed a washcloth and my makeup remover, then I washed it all off. After that I hopped in the shower and cleaned up.
This is what it feels like to be thirteen? Nothing feels different.
When I was done with my shower, I looked in the mirror. I hoped when I was thirteen I might get bigger breasts. It was embarrassing to think that. I was the only one, who didn't need a bra that bad.
All of a sudden I hear a knock. I call out, "Yes?"
"Honey, I'm feeling a little ill, could you please hurry up in there?" My grandma asks.
A little ill? Is she okay?
"Yeah! I will be out in just a sec!"
"Thank you!" So quickly I put on my makeup, dry my hair, get dressed, and brush my teeth.
My grandma, Annie, is sitting in the family room on our black U style couch. Our couch. I don't have an our anymore. I walk over to the couch, "Grandma, the bathroom is open."
"Thank you, Dear. Sorry, I couldn't use the one in the basement. If you want, you could have that as your own bathroom now." That's where my parent's room is. I can't go down there. Not after...
"I'll think about it," I say to her and she is off to the bathroom. I felt alone in the house. This has never happened.
My sister would come back from gymnastics by the time I was back home from softball. Then Jake would drive me home after baseball.
*Ding Dong*
"Can you get that, Kay?" Shouts my grandma from the bathroom.
"Yeah no problem!" I walk over to the light wood door and open it. There stands Alexandria. "Lexi! I'm so-"
"Are you okay?" She rushes to say.
I start crying again, "No, I'm not fine."
"How is he? Jake. Is he ok?" Alexandria asked me. They didn't tell her.
"Lexi, what did they tell you?"
"The cops said you guys were in an accident, is everyone okay?"
"I'm," is all I manage to get out. I have to tell her. "I was the only one that made it." Then everything happens so fast. There is a shriek, I believe was Alexandria, then we are sobbing our eyes out in the doorway. Maybe after an hour, or so, my grandma comes over and gives us coffee with whipped cream. My favorite beverage.
